 Specifications: Types of specifications, Specification writing,

 Quantity surveying: material take off preparation and writing of


bill of quantities
 Project cost estimation; site supervision; measurement and value
of work.
 Procurement and Contract: The law of contract as applied to civil
engineering constructions; Types of Civil Engineering
construction contracts; Contract documents; Conditions of
contract; Administration of contract, settlement of claims, Bidding
theory, Preparation of tender, Tender

2. Course Objectives
 Understand different types of specification, know how to assure
and control quality of construction materials and construction
products.
 Prepare specifications and BoQ for construction projects.

 Work out quantity and types of material, manpower, and


equipments needed for construction projects.
 Determine rates for construction activities using detailed cost
estimation.
 Advice stake holders on preliminary and final costs of projects.

 Prepare payment certificates and final accounts of projects.

 Acquire knowledge on how to valuate projects

5. Requirements
 Attendance, Assignments on dealt topics , Semester projects

6. Teaching Methods:
 Lecture will be conducted by power point presentation and soft
copy of Lecture Notes will be made available
 Two Semester Projects will be Given:

i. Quantity Surveying of a building Project with


Engineering Estimate.
ii. Comparison of Conditions of Contracts for Civil
Engineering Services and Works.

7. Code of Conduct:
 Students should avail themselves for lectures on time.

 Assignments and semester projects shall be submitted on due date.


Assignments and projects turned in late will be docked 10% for
each day it is late past the original due date.
 Simply copying assignments from another student is not
acceptable and will not be tolerated.
 For assignments and projects guidelines should be strictly
followed. Any Assignments not complying with the professional
standard will not be graded.
 All students must take all exams and submit all assignments and
projects. Only extenuating circumstances will be accepted for
missing exams.

Mid Exam 30%
Final Exam 40%
Total 100%

9. Letter Grades:
A≥90, A- 85-89, B+ 80-84, B 75-79, B- 70-74, C+ 65-69,
C 55-64, C- 50-54, D 45-49, D- 40-44, F < 40
