The Potential of Coir (Coconut Fibre) with the Use of Cloths as a Reusable
Menstrual Napkin for Women

Statement of the Problem:

The objective of this study is to test the ability of Coir (Coconut Fibre) as an
alternative reusable sanitary napkin. Specifically, this study seeks to answer the
following questions:

1. What properties of Coir (Coconut Fibre) allow it to absorb period blood?

2. What is the difference between Coir (Coconut Fibre) Reusable Menstrual
Napkin and other brand products in terms of efficiency rate?
3. Is there any possibility that Coir (Coconut Fibre) can rot while using it as a
Reusable Menstrual Napkin? Will it affect the product?
4. What age range does this product target?
5. How long can Coir (Coconut Fibre) hold period blood?
6. Are there any side effects of using the Coir (Coconut Fibre) Reusable
Menstrual Napkin that can harm the skin?

Background of the Study:

Nutrients are essential for one being. As we live, eating has always been a part of
growing healthy because of the vitamins and minerals in the food we consume
every day, especially fruits, giving us countless advantages in strengthening our
immune system and developing a healthy lifestyle. Its taste satisfies our hunger,
and the nutrients it gives are incomparable to any priceless food. On the other
hand, fruits like coconut, mango, and orange are not allowed to eat during a
menstrual period. And yet, at times like this, there are ways in which fruits are still
convenient, even during a menstrual cycle, as we explore and encounter what the
other side of nature has.

The skin or outer shell of fruits like bananas, rambutan, and dragon fruit are
usually thrown away in the garbage and considered waste, not knowing that some
fruit skins benefit the environment as it alternates the valuable things that have the
potential to help the economy. Indeed, our study includes fruit waste as an
alternative reusable sanitary napkin, accompanied by coconut fiber from the
coconut's outer shell, coir. This organic and non-irritating pad helps us feel at ease,
knowing it is free from toxic chemicals. It also practices us to be more
conservative and creative by using natural resources. Not only does coconut
produce healthy nutrients, but gives women a life savior.

To explore more and know the knowledge behind what fruits can give aside from
their nutrients is what the researchers are interested in this study. Cocos Nucifera
(Coconut) is a low-priced raw material, as it is beneficial and appropriate for
natural resource-based reusable sanitary napkins. Therefore, this study will teach
us how to construct an economical and sustainable alternative product with natural
resources.
