how would you describe George’s responses
towards his wife’s desires? In your opinion, will fulfilling your partner’s every desire
ensure a happy relationship?

George is one of the most realistic characters in this story. He is also clearly
pretty content with staying unlike his wife. He is also the most inactive in this story. In a
way, his character represents everything the wife wants to escape. His wife wish is full of
material goods, which is can be seen as the odds with George’s fondness of intellectual
fulfillment. He also might to sense her dissatisfaction with him and explain the slightly
touchy “shut-up.” He is just trying to read his darn book. He is so relatable considering how
little face time he gets in this story. For example, when he tells his wife that he will go down
for the cat, he doesn’t “say” it or “insist” upon it, he simply “offered” the remark- “from the
bed.” This is in marked contrast to the padrone and what his wife likes about him like the
way he wanted to serve her. He is also solemn but self-important and pompous. He is also
heavy and slow-moving. His male ego suffers a jolt when he comes to know that his wife
has not kept tea ready for him. When he needs it or not, she must have kept tea ready like an
obedient wife. He is always at the club and spends little time with his wife.
In my opinion, fulfilling our partner’s every desire is good to ensure a happy
relationship but we should to make sure that relationship is really good. Firstly, we should
live without expactations. We should not feel a sense of pressure and obligation. We cannot
expect our partner to be end-all and be-all to your happiness. We must take responbilities
for our happiness. Other than that, we must focus on improving our flaws. We must look at
ourself first instead of pointing out the flaws of our partners.
