A221 SQQS1013 Assignment 2

Purpose: This assignment is to determine whether you are able to describe the data in hands
either in terms of presenting or measuring statistical value and its interpretation.
Total Marks: 80 points
Deadline: Week 10
Instruction:
1. This assignment will be done in groups. You need to find 5-6 colleagues with whom to
work.
2. Create a good experiment using 30 people for data collections. It is compulsory to record
their profile details i.e. age, ethnicity and education level.

Experiment Examples:

i. Ask your participants to take a deep breath, hold their nose and hold their breath
for as long as they can after one exhalation at the end, then note their time.

ii. Basketball activities: Each participants will take a turn shooting the ball into the
basket. They will get 10 tries. Record their score (how many times out of the 10
tries they made a basket).

iii. Ask your participants to answer 10 general knowledge questions. Record their
score (for each correct answer). Eg: How many dots appear on a pair of dice?
What is the world's most populated country?
**You should carry out different experiment from provided examples.
3. Record your data in Microsoft Excel as follows:

4. Based on your data answer the following questions:

i. Make a frequency distribution for the data on education level.


(3 marks)

ii. Tabulate a grouped frequency distribution and a percentage relative frequency


distribution for the data on age. Next, find the mode and interpret your answer.
(11 marks)

iii. Choose an appropriate graphical approach, construct a plot to measure whether


distribution of the experiment variable appear to be symmetric or skewed? Justify
your answer.

iv. Examine whether distribution of the experiment variable for ethnicity is significantly
different ? Justify your answer.
(32 marks)

v. Calculate mean, median, variance and interquartile range for the experiment
variable. Is it more appropriate to use mean and variance or median and
interquartile range in this case? Why?
