An experiment is a cognition method that creates the conditions
under which a hypothesis is tested by purposeful and controlled changes
in the conditions under which processes, or phenomena occur. 
The main method of the experiment is a method for changing the
conditions in which the object under investigation is located.
Research does not require changing conditions. It is a step-by-step
method of seeking new knowledge or systematic investigation to
establish the facts. In a narrower sense, research is a scientific learning
process.
An experiment can be a single protocol that has a beginning and an end
to get a result. 
Experiments are part of the study, the study begins with the choice
of the problem, then the hypothesis is solved, then the experimental
phase comes.
For example, reading a new research articl in your field is a study, not an
experiment; applying the method to your work is an experiment.
