ABSTRACT

In late Middle English, a library is a building or facility with collections of books,

journals, and sometimes films and recorded music that are available to the public or
members of an organisation to use or borrow. There is a library with a collection of books
and magazines. In a private home, it is also a place where books are kept. In the library, you
can find a collection of books or music that was put out by a company as a set. Libraries
often have a collection of books, movies, music CDs, and other things that are organised
and kept in a systematised way for people to study or borrow.

PEMBANGUNAN PERPUSTAKAAN AWAM TERENGGANU

OVERVIEW

Figure 1: Pembangunan Perpustakaan Awam Terengganu

The Terengganu Public Library Corporation (PPAT) is a State Statutory Body; it was
established under the Terengganu Public Library Corporation Enactment No. 7 of 1974 and
was approved by the Terengganu State Legislative Assembly on 6 July 1974.

The first meeting to establish the Terengganu Public Library Corporation was held on
1 February 1976 by establishing a working committee with an initial allocation by the State
Government of RM 20,000.00 for its establishment. In early 1977 the Government built the
Tun Abd Building. Razak with an expenditure of RM1.5 million.

On August 1, 1977, this law went into effect. It was run out of the office of the
Terengganu Government Secretary at the Terengganu State Legislative Assembly Building
in Kuala Terengganu at Bukit Che Long, Jalan Cherong Lanjut. The Terengganu
Government Secretary's Office moved to the Wisma Darul Iman Building on June 29, 1977.
(now Wisma Negeri). That PPAT also moved and was put in the library room on the fifth floor
of the office.

On November 1, 1978, a number of new people were hired to fill open positions,
especially in the library's administration and management. The work of buying books and
sorting them is done with more energy. The Tun Abdul Razak Building was built in April

9
1979. On April 13, 1979, people at the library moved into their building, the Tun Abdul Razak
Building in Jalan Paya Bunga. This was a big deal (now Jalan Sultan Ismail). Al Marhum
DYMM Tuanku Al Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Ibn Al Marhum Sultan Zainal Abidin
opened this building on June 29, 1979. The Terengganu Public Library Corporation opened
on September 15, 1979, and since January 1, 1980, it has also been able to lend books.
Since then, the Terengganu Public Library Corporation has grown quickly and now has
libraries in the districts of Besut, Kemaman, Hulu Terengganu, Dungun, Marang, Setiu, and
Pekan Kerteh. Terengganu Public Library Corporation also set up Mobile Libraries and Rural
Libraries all over the state to help the people there. One hundred fifty-six people work for
PPAT. Seven of those people are paid.

PERPUSTAKAAN PERBADANAN AWAM JOHOR

OVERVIEW THE LIBRARY

FIGURE 8: Perbadanan Perpustakaan Awam Johor (PPAJ)

The people of Johor's governing body, known as the Perbadanan Perpustakaan

Awam Johor (PPAJ), first started to work in August 1984 after being formed by the PPAJ
Enactment 1982. Its original home, back when it was still a library, was on the eighth floor of
Bangunan Sultan Ibrahim in Bukit Timbalan. Since only government workers were permitted
to use the library and borrow items, its services and holdings were restricted.

However, PPAJ relocated from the Bangunan Sultan Ibrahim to an older state-owned
facility on Jalan Gertak Merah in January 1986. From that point on, PPAJ has fulfilled its
mission to serve the residents of Johor by providing access to a public library. YAB Dato' Hj
Abdul Ghani Othman, Menteri Besar of Johor, presided at the 27 July 2008 building opening
for PPAJ on Jalan Yahya Awal. PPAJ is making great achievements toward its goal of being
a public library with a unique atmosphere. There is a comfortable common area with a
restaurant where guests may relax and read the latest global news with their meals. Also,

18
PPAJ places a premium on creating cutting-edge collections with the intention of catering to
a wide range of consumers.

The new PPAJ structure has three stories and covers a total of 45,000 square feet,
on a plot of land of 2,661 acres. The library has 450 available chairs that are separated into
quiet study areas, areas for teens, areas for adults, and areas for kids. TVs, CD players, and
DVD players are also included for your viewing and listening pleasure. There is a total of
100,000 books in the collection, 60% of which are in the dust collection and 40% are in the
children's collection. The whole library has wireless Internet access.

PPAJ is also collaborating with Petrosains, which recently constructed a scientific

centre in the same building, which is situated on the ground level. This distinction makes
PPAJ the first public library in the world to have a science centre housed inside the library.
To combat the long-held misconception that one can only learn about science and math in a
formal educational setting, Petrosains provides a number of programmes that present these
subjects in engaging and memorable ways.

25
TECHNOLOGIES IN THE LIBRARY

There are many technologies used in Johor Public LIbrary Corporation. First, they
used OPAC (online public access catalog). An online database called OPAC lists every item
that a certain library has to offer. It functions much like a card catalog and may be accessed
using a computer or other electronic device. The traditional card catalog may eventually be
replaced by online public access catalogs as a tool for guiding library users to the materials
they need. With the ability to electronically search the database, users may find the essential
data, sources, books, literature, or other things more quickly and thoroughly.

Second one of the online library services, u-Pustaka, uses broadband and portal
technology to build a network of libraries that offers its users interlending, delivery, e-
payment, and virtual access to web publishing, collaboration, and content management. The
u-Pustaka service encourages lifelong learning and boosts social and economic growth
through the provision of electronic resources, especially in light of the unpredictable
economic climate we currently find ourselves in.

Lastly, Kids app is an app that branches into 3 games that are given such as Fun
Zone, Pocketbuku apps, Math Quiz and Fun Coloring. Hat allows users to read books from a
variety of age-appropriate categories anywhere. Users, especially kids, may easily manage
reading and filtering using the search function, category by filtering function, and page swipe
reading mode. The option is given to children who visit or attend PPAJ to learn new things
other than at their school. It can help to understand and have fun in an application so that
children can easily understand the content provided in the application provided by the Johor
Public LIbrary Corporation .

LIMITATION AND RECOMMENDATION

Librarians face a variety of issues because of the changing information landscape,

including a lack of technical skills, inadequate skilled and qualified personnel, a variety of
software libraries, inadequate infrastructure, inadequate training, a low level of information
literacy, and professional status. Low information literacy rates among library personnel and
users, lack of understanding of e-resources, and insufficient promotional initiatives were also
mentioned as important issues facing libraries in developing nations. With the emergence of
the digital data environment, students, researchers, and educators need to know more than
how to use digital tools and platforms.

Technology necessitates a high level of technical abilities from library personnel to

make the most of new technological instruments in order to deliver effective and better
services to consumers. Every librarian should learn technical skills, IT abilities, management
skills, and communication skills to function in a digital world. It is advocated that library
organizations organize effective training classes, workshops, and conferences in libraries to
