IRC ROSTER POSITION POSTING- CONTRACT POSITION

OCCASIONAL INFORMATION AND REFERRAL COORDINATOR (IRC)

REMUNERATION: $30/HOUR + HST IF APPLICABLE usually 7 hours per day

Location: A. Grenville and William Davis Court location (Brampton) or 10 Louisa


Street Court location (Orangeville)

CONTRACT TERM TO BE DEFINED ON CONTRACT

Objective: This position requires the coordinator to act as the primary and initial point of contact
for the general public, court stakeholders and the PFMS service. The IRC is an important FLIC
partner and serves the community with support services for the general public seeking
information about family law matters, referrals to community resources, and for Applicants and
Respondents to court proceedings.

Position: This position is for occasional IRC services as needed by PFMS on a monthly basis at
either or both court locations. PFMS cannot guarantee minimum number of days or hours to
subcontracted roster members.

Mandatory Requirements: Security clearance by the Ministry of the Attorney General (MAG).
Candidate must fulfill all requirements for IRC roster members required by MAG and PFMS,
specifically:

The IRC has:


(A) experience working directly with individuals involved in family
breakdown and child protection matters;

(B) advanced communication, investigative, and interviewing and
assessment skills;
(C) knowledge of family dynamics, child development, and the emotional
impact of separation on adults and children;
(D) knowledge of the dynamics of intimate partner violence and the range of
community resources available to address issues arising in families where
there is abuse;
(E) knowledge of the unique circumstances of Indigenous peoples, the
different ways that Indigenous peoples are impacted by family law issues
like divorce and child protection proceedings, and the community
resources available to meet their unique circumstances;
(F) knowledge of diversity, LGBTQI2S equality issues, and mental health
issues;
(G) knowledge of the justice system, court process, and court forms as they
relate to individuals involved in family law disputes and the child
protection system;
(H) basic knowledge of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, 2017
(Ontario); Family Law Act (Ontario); Children’s Law Reform Act (Ontario);
Divorce Act (Canada); and Family Law Rules (Ontario);
(I) knowledge of the various options for resolving family law disputes
(including but not limited to mediation, arbitration and collaborative
family law) and their relative advantages and disadvantages; and
(J) detailed knowledge of a broad range of community resources relevant to
individuals involved in family law disputes and in child protection matters.

Preferred Requirements: University degree in a related field, previous experience as an IRC at


another provincial family mediation roster or experience working as an IRC with PFMS as a
practicum student. Training in screening for domestic violence, power imbalances and coercive
control. Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.

Ongoing Requirements: 17 hours of ongoing professional development training for each


contract year (some hours are provided by PFMS free of charge to all roster members).

Summary of Responsibilities

To act as the critical link between the public, court stakeholders and the onsite and offsite
mediation services of PFMS. To provide information and referral services to the Peel and
Orangeville communities. To collect data and statistics for client files and volumes, assist with

initial screening to assess and determine appropriateness for mediation. To keep accurate and
current records of all referrals and follow established procedures regarding maintenance of files.

Responsibilities include however may not be limited to:

• Provide information to clients on issues related to separation and divorce and child
protection matters, alternative resolution and community resources;
• Use screening questionnaire and complete client data collection sheet (IRC vetting
form);
• Provide clients with referrals to community or relevant services, education and
information appropriate to clients within the family court system;
• Outreach to Peel and Dufferin communities;
• Refer clients to information sessions;
• Maintain a current list of publications and audio-visual materials that should be
available in the FLIC;
• Promote/raise awareness of the FLIC, obtain information about local services through
outreach and liaison with community agencies;
• Promote the use of mediation for cases that appear to be appropriate;
• Maintain an up-to-date list of resources, programs and services that are available in the
community to assist clients in the process of separation and divorce, and assisting
clients to get access to these programs and resources;
• Facilitate Mandatory Information Program session registrations if needed;
• Schedule/reschedule Mandatory Information Program session dates for court clients;
• On consultation with the supervising mediator refer the case to court, the mediation
service or a community agency;
• Refer clients to court staff or to advice lawyer for other services;
• Responsible for organizing and maintaining the mediation office; and,
• Collect data for research purposes, collect and coordinate internship data re: time
sheets, case involvement etc.;
• Attend IRC meetings and any other meetings that are deemed necessary;
• Comply with Ministry guidelines and requirements for training, adherence to codes of
conduct, etc.
• Answering phone calls, court mediation education and events, event planning
assistance
• Ensure all necessary IRC task lists are completed and done each day
• Maintain personal time logs for month end invoicing.
