AGENDA
In 1946 she challenged racial segregation at a cinema in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia
by refusing to leave the whites-only area Of the Roseland Theatre. For this she was
charged a minor tax violation for the one cent tax difference for the seat she paid for
and the one she used which was far more expensive. Refusing this charge brought
her case to The Supreme Court, causing an intense park in the civil rights movement.

WHO IS JEANNETTE CORBIERE
Jeannette challenged a treaty creating the silence and holding Indians captive sao the
Canadian government could be under control of their basic human rights as people
called the Indian act. She tried to reaffirm faith in the fundamental human rights for
Indian women trying to to counter the Indian act with the Bill Of Rights which
discriminated against non-status women if married. Why shouldn't an Indian
woman try to keep her race at birth?
Challenging Canadian state, Jeannette Corbiere Lavell, Sandra Lovelace, and Yvonne
Bédard directly influenced the amendment of section 35 of the Constitution Act, 1982
in 1983 to ensure that men and women would have equal access to Aboriginal and
treaty rights.
HOW JEANETTE CORBIERE CREATED A CHANGE IN HUMAN EQUALITY
This right for Canada proved that Canada is moving in the right direction
concerning basic human rights, now minorities can feel welcomed and a part of
society which was so against them in the past. It is surprising to know this was
passed not long ago, but this is the evolution.
