In 1958, the company changed its name to Sony Corporation. Under its new name, Sony
began manufacturing a wide variety of products, including televisions, cassette players, and
camcorders. In the 1960s, Sony also began developing audio products, such as portable
cassette players and home audio systems.
In the 1970s, Sony began expanding internationally and acquiring other companies. In 1982,
it acquired Columbia Pictures, becoming one of the world's leading entertainment
companies. In the 1990s, Sony released the first portable CD player and the first DVD
player.
Today, Sony is a leading consumer electronics and entertainment company with a wide
range of products including televisions, music and video players, still and video cameras,
game consoles and much more. It is also one of the world's leading entertainment
companies, with a presence in film, music and television.
