Among the five videos I watched, I chose samba to write a critique paper on since it captured my

attention with how they danced; they are all energetic dancers. According to my research, samba is an
active and lively dance that is currently popular in many regions of the world. The dance is characterized
by syncopated rhythms, bouncing moves, and rolling hip movements. It can be danced with or without a
partner. It's similar to a Brazilian ballroom dance that gained popularity in Western Europe and the
United States in the early 1940s.

I noticed in the video that Samba has a few unique characteristics. To begin with, it has a unique rhythm
with an emphasis on the beat, which attracts us, the viewers. The dancers' movements consist of a
straight body and gradual knee bends. Additionally, just before the first beat, one foot lifts up to the
outside, moving the right leg slightly to the right while maintaining a pole-straight posture with the leg.
The other foot advances slightly forward and becomes closer to the front foot. The right side of the hip
appears to move higher when the second leg slightly bends at the knee, causing the left side to fall.
Secondly, whereas women frequently wear heels, men usually dance with one foot on the ground. They
are also appropriately dressed, and women’s costumes are indeed colorful. Women can move more
freely because of the style in which women's costumes are made, representing key body lines like the
hips and thighs while dancing.

The way they actively dance during the samba is arguably what makes it so fascinating. They look to be
having fun as they dance fast and energetically. Moreover, as we are all aware, dancers express
messages through various facial expressions. Their facial expression in the video I watched was
incredibly animated, adorable, and beautiful, matching the action of dancing the samba. Even though
the two dancers are frequently interrupted, everyone is drawn in by their enthusiasm. Overall, there
aren't enough words to accurately convey how amazing it is.
