Beakers are useful as a reaction container or to hold liquid or solid samples. They
are also used to catch liquids from titrations and filtrates from filtering operations.

2. A Measuring Cylinders / graduated cylinder / cylinder measuring / mixing cylinder is a

piece of laboratory apparatus used to measure the volume of a liquids, chemicals or
solutions during the lab daily work. Graduated cylinders are more precise and
accurate than the common laboratory flasks and beakers.

3. A volumetric flask is a piece of laboratory apparatus, a type of laboratory flask,

calibrated to contain a precise volume at a certain temperature.

4. Erlenmeyer flask is often used for stirring or heating solutions and is purposefully

designed to be useful for those tasks

5. TEST TUBE is a hollow cylinder of thin glass with one end closed, used in chemical
and biological experimentation and analysis.
6. Weighing balance is an instrument that is used to determine the
weight or mass of an object. It is available in a wide range of sizes with
multiple weighing capacities and is an essential tool in laboratories,
commercial kitchens and pharmacies.

7. HIGH VOLTAGE SIEVE SHAKER

Sieve shakers are devices designed to help promote particle movement

through a stack of sieves, facilitating accurate particle separation.

8. Sieve stack is the result of fitting each sieve to be used in a given particle size analysis into
the one above. The sieve with the largest mesh holes is at the top with each subsequent
sieve of a tighter mesh size than the one above it.

9. Laboratory ovens are standard equipment found in most clinical,

forensic, electronics, material processing, and, research laboratories.
Laboratory ovens provide uniform temperature and precise temperature
control for heating, baking, evaporating, sterilizing and other industrial
laboratory functions. Oven temperature ranges from ambient to above
300°C.
TYPES OF LABORATORY OVENS
Standard Digital Ovens – Built for the heating and drying process, offering temperature accuracy control and
safety.
Heavy Duty Ovens – Typically used in industrial applications for soils/aggregate testing and drying biological
samples.
High-Temperature Ovens – Custom built ovens with temperatures upwards of 500°C. Additional insulation lining
the oven walls and doors.
Vacuum Ovens – Also called drying ovens are used to remove moisture from objects without cooking them. Heat is
produced from the side walls and requires an external vacuum pump to provide a low-pressure environment which
minimizes oxidation during drying.
Forced Air Convection Ovens – Also called mechanical convection ovens, With the help of a blower fan, warm air
is pushed around the oven chamber. This creates a uniform distribution of warm air and provides rapid heat up and
recovery time. Something to note, convection heating can cause excessive drying due to the force of the fan. See
diagram below.
Gravity Convection Ovens – Hot air naturally rises when it expands and become less dense than the air around it.
These ovens provide a low-cost alternative to forced convection ovens. See diagram below.

10. The UTEST Manual and Motorized Liquid Limit Apparatus (Casagrande) are used to
determine the moisture content at which clay soils pass from plastic to liquid state.
The devices consist of an adjustable crank and cam mechanism, a blow counter and a
removable brass cup fitted on the base.

11. Use mortar and pestle chemistry sets to crush up solid chemicals into smaller
pieces, or to grind solids into fine powder. This makes it easier to dissolve solids into
solvents (when making solutions). A mortar and pestle chemistry set has two pieces. The
pestle is shaped like a club and is used for crushing.

12.
Calibration Weights are used to check the reading of scale, to make sure it is still
accurate. They used when calibrating a scale. While the calibration states how a scale
behaves, adjustment of the scale changes its behavior.
13. ELECTRIC STRAIN-TYPE DIRECT SHEAR APPARATUS
Application This apparatus is used to test resisting shear strength of soil specimen. The direct shear apparatus is driven by a
stepper motor and controlled by a microprocessor system, with load cell and linear electronic transducers to operate independently to
perform standard or cyclic tests, programmable by keyboard input and obtaining all data concerning load, horizontal displacements
from the display.

14. The triple beam balance is a typical instrument used to measure the mass
of various objects. It consists of three beams, each of which is provided with a
single sliding weight that has a size corresponding to the gradations of the
notched scale on each beam. The largest scale has 100 gram divisions, the next smallest
has 10 gram divisions and the smallest scale is graduated into gram and 0.1 gram divisions. The
balance can be read to 0.05 grams by carefully estimating the final decimal place.

15. MICROMETER/ MICROMETER SCREW GAUGE

A micrometer, sometimes known as a micrometer screw gauge, is a device incorporating a

calibrated screw widely used for accurate measurement of components in mechanical
engineering and machining as well as most mechanical trades, along with other
metrological instruments such as dial, vernier, and digital calipers.

16. CALIPER
is a device used to measure the dimensions of an object.

17. SLUMP CONE

A metal mode in the form of a truncated cone with a top diameter 4”, a bottom diameter of 8” and
a height of 12”, used to fabricate specimen for a slump test.
18. Concrete cylinder molds are used to create cylinder test specimens. The cylinder
molds are constructed of plastic or steel. The plastic concrete cylinder molds are
disposable, while the steel molds are reusable. The molds come in a variety of sizes
including: 2″ x 4″, 3″ x 6″, 4″ x 8″, and 6″ x 12″.

19. Plunger

20. Tamping Rods eliminate air voids in concrete when making slump tests, concrete
cylinders or conducting concrete air entrainment test. Hemispherically rounded on both
ends and plated for corrosion resistance.

21. The Sand Density Cone provides a practical method of determining the in-place density
of soil and related materials in base coarses, roadways, dams, embankments, levees and
similar construction.

22. STCBR-3 Digital CBR Tester

The machine features a rigid two-column frame with upper crossbeam, which can be adjusted in
height and locked in position with locknuts. The drive force is provided by
an linkage of motor, worm and worm wheel housed in the base cabinet, which also
accommodates the motor and the electric panel. Can operated both by motor and
manual handle.
23. Beam mold

The beam mold is used to prepare concrete specimens for flexural testing of concrete beams.
