APPLICATION FORM FOR RESEARCH TITLE

Proposed Research Title 1:

Level of Compliance on Hygiene and Safety Practices of Selected Street

Food Vendors in Kadiwa Market During COVID-19 Pandemic

Background of the Study

The safety of street food has long been a source of concern, as it has
been shown to be served in unhygienic conditions and with poor food
handling practices. Usually it is prepared and sold in congested areas such as
school, markets, park, bus terminals and are aimed at a large number of
people. In light of these concerns, this study aims is to assess street food
vendors’ level of compliance to food hygiene and safety practices in order to
assure food safety as well as to prevent virus transmission during a
pandemic. The study will be conducted in Kadiwa Market Dasmariñas City of
Cavite, Philippines, which is one of the center of trade industry, many people
go to Kadiwa market for food access and their basic needs, and lots of
merchants and traders for business matters, which could be a good site for
street vending due to high volume of people going in the area.

Food safety became one of the public’s primary concerns, and it has
received a lot of attention. The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)
pandemic has changed people’s perceptions of food and food safety (Xiang,
C., et al, 2020). According to the Food & Health Survey (2020) conducted by
the International Food Information Council (IFIC), COVID-19 was the leading
food safety concern for food handling and preparation. The pandemic
disrupted the food industry and altered people’s relationships with food; it
altered how people accessed food, where they ate, and observed how their
food was prepared. Consumers may be seeking additional information and
learning about food handling techniques considering food safety was a high
priority during COVID-19 (Thomas, M.S., et al, 2021). Handwashing with soap
and water before and after preparing food, using PPE (personal protective
equipment) when preparing food, and proper sanitation and disinfection
measures on the work area are some of the food safety precautions that have
been frequently empathized.

Specifically, this study would benefit the street food vendors to raise
awareness and knowledge about hygiene and safety practices, as well as
how food preparation could potentially affect infection transmission.
Consumers, to disseminate effective information that must be provided to be
aware about the possible infections that may acquire. Local government
health agencies, to assist in addressing health issues by implementing
policies for food hygiene and street food vendor safety practices to prevent
COVID-19 transmission. Future researchers, as the study’s findings, will serve
as a reference and/or the basis for future research.

Proposed Research Title 2:

Relationship of Academic Performance in Passing the Philippine

Nursing Licensure Examination

Background of the Study

Nursing Licensure Examination is conducted by the Professional

Regulatory Commission to gauge and screen nursing graduates that will able
to practice nursing profession. According to Section 12, Article IV of the
Philippine Nursing Act of 2002 or Republic Act 9173 new practitioner must
pass the Nursing Licensure Examination to be able to practice nursing in the
Philippines.

Moreover, the number of nursing professionals who passed the nursing

licensure examination is another indicator of the country's nursing program's
quality. However, the emergence of Novel Corona Virus in 2019 led to
widespread closure of colleges and universities and rapid transitioning to
online learning. One of the challenges in online learning is maintaining
integrity in which indeed essential in learning process. Majority of the faculty
and students disclose that online learning is inappropriate to teach practical
competencies and hands-on skills which is the core of nursing practice.
Furthermore, learning environment is not controlled during exams and search
engine readily available students might misbehave to access the content
during assessments. Breaching of academic veracity through plagiarism and
cheating is rampant. (Bdair, I. A.2021, March 1). In addition, issues in
inadequate learning resources most students only use phone and suffer from
storage incapacity. Electric and internet interruption, poor network is major
problem in developing countries such as Philippines with telecommunication
and ICT is not properly developed. (Rotas, E. E., & Cahapay 2022, October
13)

This study aims to determine the relationship of Nursing students

academic performance in passing the Philippine Nursing Licensure
Examination (PNLE) of college graduates in St. Jude College – Dasmariñas
Cavite. This study will also aims to determine the student academic
performance in their baccalaureate program and their performance in pre-
board examination if it has significant relationship in determining the failure
and success of students nursing licensure examination performance. The
respondents will be nursing student graduates from St. Jude College –
Dasmariñas City, Cavite batch of 2019, 2020 and 2021 class.

The result would benefit the students to raise their awareness

regarding the correlation of academic performance in passing the PNLE
therefore, students will enhance or maintain academic performance in all their
subject especially in professional nursing subjects. Curriculum enhancement
is necessary to improve the academic and NLE performances of nursing
graduates (De Leon, 2016). Nurse Educators, to provide and ensure the right
and quality education to future nurses.
Proposed Research Title 3:

Factors Influencing the Use of Family Planning Among Mothers in

Sunny Brooke 2 Barangay San Francisco General Trias Cavite

Background of the Study

Family planning is one of the services that has positive influence on the
social welfare and health of the mothers and directly contributes to reduction
of maternal morbidity and mortality. According to USAID’s Luzon Health
Project that contraceptive prevalence rate increased from 26 percent in 2013
to 31 percent in 2017. There 2 types of family planning in the Philippines the
traditional and modern method it is also known as the natural and artificial
birth control methods wherein traditional method use to track the ovulation
period, the woman monitors and record different fertility cues during menstrual
cycle these methods are the rhythm method, withdrawal, abstinence, calendar
method, basal temperature, lactational amenorrhea method, and standard
days method. While the modern method of contraception could be
mechanically, chemical or surgical including female sterilization, male
sterilization, pill, IUD, injectable, condom, and mucus/Billings/ovulation
methods.

The depressing Covid-19 pandemic situation it affects healthcare

system. Family planning information and services are not exempted in the
disruptions brought by the emergency crisis that led to inaccessibility of the
services. The National Family Planning Program in the Philippines is being
carried out to achieve unmet goals by 2022 which are to increase the modern
contraceptive prevalence rate (mCPR) for all women to 30%; and to reduce
the unmet needs for modern family planning by 8%. However, the pandemic
causes difficulties and challenges emerged with the program's implementation
inaccessibility and decreased demand for FP services occurred.( Daquis, J.
C., & Jaminola, L. M. 2022, March 15)

This study aims to determine the factors influencing the use of family
planning as well as their chosen method to used. The respondents will be
mothers age ranging from 20 to 30 years old.

This study would benefit the mothers to raise their awareness

regarding family planning methods through health education, this will provide
prior knowledge to the mother that family planning reduces the health risks
that may occur before, during or after childbirth. Father, to know his
responsibility and to effectively support and assist her partner regarding the
chosen family planning method by also attending health education conducted.
Community, aids in population planning and control this will help the
community for effective development, conservation and distribution of natural
resources, more jobs, sufficient school, healthcare and sanitation facilities,
and other economic and environmental benefits.
