JOB OPPORTUNITIES

Chirano Gold Mines Limited is an underground and open pit gold mine in the Western North Region
of Ghana, within the Bibiani gold belt. It is a subsidiary of Asante Gold Corporation.
Chirano Gold Mine is looking for a highly qualified, proactive, motivated and resourceful person to
fill the following positions;
i. Blastman iv. Charge/Blast Assistant
ii. Solo Operator v. Underground Serviceman
iii. Cubex ITH Operator

i. Blastman
Reporting to the Shift Boss, the role entails charging and firing blast holes in a safe and efficient
manner using variety of explosives depending on the drill pattern, rock type and hole dimensions

Key Responsibilities
• Handle transport, and use explosives and explosive accessories in a safe manner according
to Standard Operating Procedures.
• Prep, clean, charge up and fire long hole stopes and drop raises according to plan.
• Conduct re-entries and watering down after blasting to ensure workings are safe for
personnel and equipment to perform duties.
• Ensure that all statutory requirements associated with the mining operation are adhered
to in full compliance with the Minerals and Mining (Health, Safety and Technical)
Regulations, 2012, Minerals and Mining (Explosives) Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2182 and L.I.
2177 respectively).
• Prepare reports and complete all documentation for charge up and blasting at the end of
shift.
• Perform any other duty assigned by Supervisor.

Education, Work Experience & Key Competencies


• Minimum of basic educational qualifications (BECE/SSCE/NVTI or its equivalent) with at
least 5 years underground experience.
• Must show good understanding of all types of blasting including lateral development and
Vertical Crater Retreat blasting.
• Should have a valid Ghanaian Blasting Certificate of competency issued by the Inspectorate
Division of the Minerals Commission (IDMC).
• Must have a valid First Aid Certificate.
• Must possess a valid Ghanaian driving license (Class B & E) and be capable of driving
underground.
• Must demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the relevant Minerals and Mining
Regulations.
• Should have adequate knowledge and understanding of ventilation circuits, firing
procedures (which include electronic firing, re-entry procedures, drop raise firing, etc.)
• Should have knowledge in the use of charge-up kettle (ANFO), emulsion charging units and
at least two underground mobile equipment.

ii. Solo Operator

Key Responsibilities
• Ensure relevant Safety, Mining and other statutory Codes and Regulations remain in full
compliance, and actively promote Safety Culture and Hazard Awareness on the Mine
• Mark up drill patterns in accordance with design, geological, statutory, and survey
specifications
• Drill to design, measure and confirm completion within specification tolerances
• Work with technical and supervisory staff in quality and safety initiatives
• Complete end of shift tasks including status checks, data reporting and handover
preparation for the incoming shift.
• Conduct pre-operational checks and monitor conditions by verifying component
functionality, fluid levels and fittings, as well as depth and alignment of the drill rig.
• Complete all tasks at the required rate and to the required standard
• Participate in all applicable safety, prestart and shift team meetings
• Complete pre-start checklists, shift reports & plods to an acceptable standard
• Perform other duties as may be reasonably assigned by your supervisor in accordance to
the company’s policies

Education, Work Experience & Key Competencies


• Minimum of basic educational qualifications (BECE/SSCE/NVTI or its equivalent) with at
least three (3) years underground drilling experience.
• Must be able to read and interpret technical drawings, parts books and service manuals
(including specifications) for Company Equipment.
• Detailed knowledge of the operation of Solo drills with a minimum of 3 years’ Top Hammer
& Long-Hole Drilling experience
• ITH/DTH drilling experience will be an added advantage
• Ability to read and understand detailed drill pattern designs, survey prints and layouts
• Must have basic electrical and mechanical knowledge on the Solo Rigs.
• Must have a valid First Aid Certificate.
• Must possess a valid Ghanaian driving license (Class B & E) and be capable of driving
underground.
• Must demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the relevant Minerals and Mining
Regulations.
• Must be able to read, write and speak good English.

iii. Cubex ITH Operator

Key Responsibilities
• Ensure relevant Safety, Mining and other statutory Codes and Regulations remain in full
compliance.
• Ensure all tasks or activities are executed and aligned with Standard Operating Procedures
and Safe Work Instructions at all times.
• Plan and mobilize equipment to drilling site (Tramming).
• Work collaboratively with Mining Engineers and the Survey team to ensure drilling is
undertaken to plan.
• Provide ongoing coordination of services and communicate with supervisors and fellow
crew members.
• Report all accidents, unsafe positions, defected equipment, and safety complains to
immediate supervisor or to HSE representative.
• Read and interpret drilling plans to ensure cost-effectiveness of all drilling operations.
• Ensure proper rig-up and rig-down procedures.
• Provide reliable and accurate operational knowledge and practical application to minimize
down time and loss of production.
• Perform other duties as may be reasonably assigned by your supervisor in accordance to
the company’s policies

Education, Work Experience & Key Competencies


• Minimum of basic educational qualifications (BECE/SSCE/NVTI or its equivalent) with at
least three (3) years underground drilling experience.

• Must be able to read, write and speak good English.
• Must possess a valid Driver's License/Operating Permits

iv. Charge/ Blast Assistant
Reporting to the designated Blastman, the individual will assist the Blastman to charge and blast
in accordance with the Mining standards and legal requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct re-entries and watering down after blasting to ensure workings are safe for
personnel and equipment to perform duties.

to in full compliance with the Minerals and Mining (Health, Safety and Technical)
Regulations, 2012, Minerals and Mining (Explosives) Regulations, 2012 (L.I. 2182 and L.I.

• Must possess a valid Ghanaian driving license (Class B & E) and be capable of driving
underground.
• Should have adequate knowledge and understanding of underground mining activities.
• Should be conversant with industrial safety, health and environmental requirements.
• Physical strong and capable of performing this task

v. Underground Serviceman
Responsible for the installation, maintenance and reclamation of underground utilities such as
compressed air, mine water, dewatering lines and ventilation ducting, as well as installation of
ground support.

Key Responsibilities
• Actively promote Safety culture and Hazard awareness and maintain production goals and
objectives as a team.
• Actively participate in CGML Continuous Improvement programmes.
• Ensure all services that are required underground are carried out in an efficient manner as
guided by the immediate supervisor.

• Extend and maintain ventilation and services to areas where needed, including hanging
ventilation bags and moving / installing secondary fans.
• Extend and maintain water, compressed air services and pumps to areas where needed.
• Assist with operations as determined by immediate supervisor.
• Install, grout and tension cable bolts in areas where needed.
• Prep stope rings prior to charging as instructed by immediate supervisor
• Participate in all applicable safety, prestart and shift team meetings
• Maintain high standard of housekeeping on equipment and all work areas
• Maintain a positive and close working relationship with other service crew members to
ensure smooth mining processes.
• Conduct job safety analysis to identify hazards, LOTOTO (lock-out, try-out, tag-out), working
at heights, confined spaces, etc. prior to undertaking any task.
• Report all incidents, accidents, near misses, emergency response protocols and first aid
events to Supervisors as soon as possible.
• Perform other duties as reasonably assigned by your Supervisor or his designate.

Education, Work Experience & Key Competencies


• Minimum of Basic Education Certificate is required.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience in a mining environment preferably working at
Underground.
• Knowledge of safety, health and environmental regulations pertaining underground mining
environment.
• Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision, follow instructions and provide
feedback.
• Ability to operate IT (Integrated Tool Carrier) and drive Light Vehicles.
• Knowledge of underground services including compressed air, water, dewatering, electrical
and ventilation installation.
• Understanding of Mining Health & Safety Procedures.
• Knowledge and understanding of the Duty of Care Standards, Occupational Health & Safety
Regulations, and Mining Inspection Act & Regulations.
• Possess a valid Ghanaian Driver’s License (B & E) with good driving skills and ability to drive
underground.
• Should have adequate knowledge and understanding of underground mining activities.
• Should be conversant with industrial safety, health and environmental requirements.
• Physically strong and capable of performing this task.
