1. What type of building interior (anything except residential) would you want to
design for your thesis? Why? Explain in at least 200 words.

The Covid pandemic brought the country's tourism sector at risk. The closing of
boundaries and imposed public safety orders like mass gathering restrictions resulted
in the sudden loss of revenues and rise of unemployment in the industry. According to
the report of the Philippine Statistics Authority, the country’s international tourist
arrivals and tourism receipts in 2020 fell by about 80% and fell by 90% in 2021. Due
to the low number of tourists and demand, 78% of tourism-related businesses like the
Hotel Industry stopped offering services to the public.

As the Philippines slowly moved forward, in March 2022 the Inter-Agency Task
Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) lifted restrictions
and allowed the hospitality industry to open and provide services to the public. The
Resort Hotel industry, being one of the backbones of tourism in Batangas is bouncing
back faster than expected. Domestic tourism helped the province to rise to the present
time.

The researcher would like to conduct a study involving the Hospitality industry-
Resort Hotel, a commercial-type building. The researcher opts to achieve an effective
hospitality design in consideration of the COVID pandemic situation and the status of
the industry in her community. She desires to help the industry to breakthrough from
its downfall happened from the past two years.
2. What theory, concept and/or style would you want to apply in your interior
design thesis? Explain in at least 200 words.

In two years, the pandemic brought so much change to people. The

pandemic-brought adjustments introduced the world to concepts that have
changed their preferences and priorities. As the world takes on to adapt to the
"new normal", we are forced to continue our lives all in our homes. It derived us
to work-from-home setups that introduced us to a new phenomenon-Workation.

Despite having contradicting root words (work and vacation), Workation

has been increasingly being adopted by young professionals. This remote
setup enables them to have flexible work schedules that improve their
productivity, wellness, and job satisfaction. This concept was supported by
Environmental Psychology and by the theory of Environmental Preference
theory.

Environmental psychology explains the relationship between human

behavior and the environment. While Environmental Preference theory tells us
that a person has environmental preferences that shape and affect their
wellness and behavior.

Merging the concept of workation to the existing resort hotels would enable us
to constantly adapt and supply people's needs and wants with respect to the
situation brought by the pandemic.
