UNIT 2 PROJECTIONS OF PLANE

Type 1 Marks for every problem – 12 or 13

Problem 1 An isosceles triangle ABC having its base AB = 40 mm and altitude 60


mm is resting on the HP on its base AB. Draw the projections of the plane when its
surface is inclined to H.P. at an angle of 45 0 and base AB which is on HP is making
an angle of 500 to the VP. Also find the angle made by the triangle with VP.

Problem 2 A rectangle ABCD with side AB is 30mm and side BC 50 mm is resting


on the VP on its smaller side AB. Draw the projections of the plane when its surface
makes an angle of 450 with the VP and the side AB which is on the VP is inclined at
450 to the HP. Draw the projections of the rectangle and find the angle made by it
with HP.

Problem 3 A regular pentagonal plane ABCDE of side 40 mm has side AB in HP


making an angle of 200 with VP. The plane makes an angle of 45 0 with HP and the
point D lies in VP. Draw the projections of the plane and find the angle made by the
plane with VP.

Problem 4 A rhombus ABCD having major diagonal AC=90 mm and minor


diagonal BD=60 mm is resting on the HP on its corner A. Draw the projections of the
rhombus when its surface is inclined to HP at an angle of 45 0 and diagonal AC
contained by an auxiliary vertical plane making an angle of 30 0 to the VP.

Problem 5 A square plate of 60 mm side is resting on the VP on one of its corners


in such a way that its surface makes an angle of 45 0 to the VP. Draw the projections
of the square plate when front view of the diagonal passing through the corner on VP
makes an angle of 300 to the HP.

Problem 6 A regular hexagon of 30 mm side has a corner in the HP. Its surface is
inclined at 400 to the HP and the top view through the corner which is in the HP
makes an angle of 600 with the VP. Draw the projections.

Type 2

Problem 7 A circular plate of diameter 60 mm is kept on the HP on a point of its


circumference. The surface of the circular plate makes an angle of 40 0 to the HP.
Draw the projections of the circle when diameter passing through the point on HP
makes an angle of 300 to VP. Also find the angle made by circular plate with VP.

Problem 8 A regular hexagonal plane of 30 mm side has one of its corner on VP.
The surface of the plane is inclined at 30 0 to the VP. Draw the projections of the
plane when diagonal passing through the corner on HP makes an angle of 45 0 to the
HP. Also find the angle made by plate with HP.
Problem 9 A rectangle having sides 50 mm and 80 mm is kept in the VP on one of
its smaller sides in such a way that its surface makes an angle of 45 0 with the VP.
Draw the projections of the rectangle when one of its longer sides makes an angle of
300 to HP.

Type 3

Problem 10 An isosceles triangular plate of 50 mm base and 75 mm altitude


appears as an equilateral triangle of side 50mm in top view. Draw the projections of
the plate if its 50 mm long edge is on HP and inclined at 45 0 to the VP. What are the
inclinations of the plate with HP and VP?

Problem 11 A rectangular plate ABCD with side AB = 40 mm and BC = 60 mm has


its side AB on VP and side BC making an angle of 30 0 with HP. Draw the projections
of the rectangle if its front view appears to be square.

Problem 12 A square ABCD of 60 mm side rests on the corner A on the HP in such


a way that the plane appears as a rhombus in the plan with diagonal containing the
corner A measuring 30 mm. Draw the projections of the square when another
diagonal is making an angle of 450 with VP . Measure inclination of plane with HP.

Problem 13 A 300 – 600 set square has its shortest edge 50 mm long and is in the
HP. The top view of the set square is an isosceles triangle. Draw the projections with
the hypotenuse of the set square inclined at 40 0 to the VP.

Problem 14 A triangular plane has sides 75mm , 70mm and 60 mm. Its top view is
a right angle triangle with one side as 75 mm making an angle of 60 0 with XY line.
Draw the projections and find the angles with HP and VP.

Problem 15 ABCD is a rhombus with diagonals AC = 115 mm and BD = 75 mm.


The corner A is on HP and the Rhombus is made inclined to HP such that the plan
appears as a square. If the diagonal AC makes an angle of 25 0 with VP. Draw the
projections of the plane and find its inclinations with HP and VP.

Problem 16 Draw the projections of a circular lamina 80 mm diameter resting on


HP on a point of the circumference and its plane is inclined to HP in such a way that
the plan is an ellipse of 60 mm minor axis. Draw the projections of the lamina if the
diameter through the point on HP makes an angle of 30 0 with VP. Find inclinations
with HP and VP.

Problem 17 A regular pentagonal plate ABCDE of 40 mm side is resting in HP on


its corner. Its surface is inclined to HP such that the top view lengths of sides AB and
AE are 35 mm each. Draw the projections of plate, if side CD is made parallel to both
the reference planes. Measure its inclination with HP.
Type 4

Problem 18 ABC is an equilateral triangle of side 60 mm long. Its corner A is on HP


and side BC is 20 mm above HP. Draw the projections of the triangle when side BC
is inclined to VP at an angle of 50 0. Find the inclinations of the plane with HP and
VP.

Problem 19 ABC is a triangular plate having sides AB = 40 mm, BC = 75 mm and


CA = 60 mm. The triangle is resting on HP on its side AB which is inclined to VP at
an angle of 600. Corner C of the triangle is 30 mm above HP and corner A is 10 mm
in front VP. Draw the projections of the plane.

Problem 20 A pentagonal plane of side 40 mm is kept on the HP on one of its


corners with the side opposite to the corner on H.P. is 20 mm above HP and parallel
to both HP and VP. Draw the projections of the plane and find the inclinations of the
plane with HP and VP.

Type 5

Problem 21 An isosceles triangle ABC having the base AB 60 mm and altitude 85


mm has its base in the VP making an angle of 30 0 with the HP. The corner A is 10
mm above the HP and the corner C is in the VP. Draw the projections of the plane
and find its inclinations with VP.

Problem 22 Triangular plane ABC has its base AB 60 mm long and is on HP and is
inclined to VP at 30 0. Its altitude length is 80mm. The plane is lifted on AB such that
AC lies on a plane perpendicular to both HP and VP. Draw the projections of the
plane. Find inclinations of the plane with HP and VP.

Problem 23 A trapezium ABCD having larger parallel side AB = 60 mm, smaller


side CD = 30 mm and height 50 mm is kept on the HP with side AB parallel to VP
and 15 mm in front of it. The trapezium is rotated about its side AB till side CD
touches VP. Draw the projections of the trapezium and find its inclinations with HP
and VP.

Problem 24 A thin pentagonal plate ABCDE of 35 mm side is standing on HP on


edge AB which makes 300 with VP and corner A is 35 mm in front of VP. The plate is
tilted on this edge so that the vertex opposite to side AB i.e. corner D touches V.P.
Draw the projections and measure the inclinations of the plane with HP and VP.

Problem 25 A hexagonal plane of side 30 mm is resting in the VP on one of its


sides with opposite side on HP. Draw the projections of the hexagonal planes when
the side in VP is parallel to the HP and 20 mm above it. Find the inclinations of the
plane with HP and VP.

Problem Figure shows two views of a thin triangular plate ABC. Obtain the
true shape of the plate and find the inclinations of the plate with HP and VP.

1 An isosceles triangle , base 50 mm and altitude 80 mm is resting in HP on its


base . Its surface is inclined to HP so that the corner opposite to resting side
is 50 mm above HP . Draw the projections , if its resting side is inclined to VP
at an angle of 45 degree . Find the inclinations made by the plane with HP

2 A square plate of side 50 mm is resting in VP on its corner in such a way that


its adjacent sides are equally inclined to HP . Its surface is inclined to VP so
that its FV appears as a rhombus of 40 mm minor axis. Draw the projections
and find the inclinations made by the plane with HP and VP , if the diagonal
line passing through the resting corner is inclined to HP at an angle of 25

3 A rectangular plate 50 mm × 80 mm is resting in HP on its smaller side. Its


surface is inclined to HP at angle of 40 0 . Draw the projections if its resting
side is inclined to VP at an angle of 25 0 . Find the inclinations made by the

4 A rhombus of a longer diagonal 80 mm and smaller diagonal 50 mm is resting


in VP on its corner , with its longer diagonal parallel to XY . Its surface is
inclined to VP so that the corner opposite to resting corner is 50 mm in front of
VP. Draw the projections , if the diagonal line passing through the resting
corner is inclined to HP at an angle of 25 0 .Find the inclinations made by the

5 A hexagonal plate , base side 50 mm , is resting in HP on one of its corner


with its side parallel to VP. Then its surface is inclined to HP so that the corner
opposite to resting corner is 51 mm above HP. Draw the projjections if its top
view line passing through resting corner and its opposite corner, is inclined to
VP at an angle of 35 0 . Also find the inclination made by the plate with VP.

6 An equilateral triangle of 60 mm side is resting in VP on one of its die. Then


its surface is inclined to VP at an angle of 40 0 . Draw the projections of plane if
the resting side is inclined to HP at an angle of 30 0 Find the inclination made

7 An isosceles triangular plate with base 60 mm and altitude 80 mm has its


base in HP and inclined at 45 0 to VP. Its surface is inclined to HP so that its

8 A pentagonal plate of side 40 mm is held on VP on one of its corner and the


edge opposite to that corner makes an angle of 25 0 with the HP. The surface
