Media Note for TISS Social Media

On 24th Dec 2022, The 6th National Conference on Disability, Accessibility, Inclusion and
Wellbeing successfully organized by I Access Rights Mission, Centre for Disability Studies
and Action, School of Social Work, Tata Institute of Social Sciences at 6th Floor Library
Conference Hall at TISS. The Conference was Inaugurated in presence of Prof Shalini Bharat
Director of TISS, Prof Bino Paul Deputy Director of TISS, Prof Bipin Jojo, Dean, School of
Social Work along with renowned Key note speakers, Guest of Honours, Inaugural Address
speakers, Valedictory Speakers and Dr Vaishali Kolhe who was the organiser and Conference
Convener. The Conference started with Inaugural Speech of Dr Nagaraja MN, Ex Deputy
Director of Ali Yawar Jung National Institute of Speech and Hearing on the topic of
‘Challenges in Development of Speech and Language of Children with Deafness and
Development of Sign Language’ and completed with the Valedictory Address delivered by
Prof. Krishan Mahajan, Ex Additional Registrar (Research), Supreme Court of India on ‘Legal
framework on Disability Rights and way forward’. The outcome of the conference is scientific
speeches delivered by renowned Key note speakers, Guest of Honours included Dr Ravinder
Singh, ICMR and Shri Gurusharan Singh, Secretary, Paralympic Committee of India, Prof
Sanjay Jain, Professor of Law, National Law University Banglore, Prof Gaurav Raheja,
Professor and Head, Dept. of Architecture and Planning IIT Roorkee. The National Conference
was supported by Narayan Bhargava Group and Inaugurated in presence of Shri Narayan
Bhargava who graced the occasion with Ms Shweta Jha, Vice President of NBG and Mr Vijay
from Diversity Team of NBG. Shri Narayan Bhargava is founder, promoter and Chairman of
Narayan Bhargava Group(NBG) who is committed to promote the diversity and inclusion of
persons with disability through NBG initiatives of Unsung Heros employees with deafness as
Role Model in Diversity Team of NBG. Few guest of Honour Prof Yogesh Pratap Singh, Vice
Chancellor of National Law University Tripura and Prof Priti Saxena, Director, Centre for Post
Graduate Legal Studies, BBAU, central University joined though online mode.Also the
scholars participated from all over India and The 20 scientific papers presented by Scholars
and chaired by Dr Ravinder Singh, ICMR, Dr Shamim Modi, Chairperson, School of Law,
TISS and Dr Vaishali Kolhe. TISS. The first prize for scientific Paper presentation went to Ms
Aishwarya Isha, An Architect Student from IIT, Second prize received by PhD scholars of JNU
Mr Amar and Ram and Third Prize to Ms Vidya from Amedkar College Delhi. The Scholars
from various disciplines like Architecture, International Studies, English Literature, Law,
Library Sciences, and Sociology has presented the papers on Disability Studies with
multidisciplinary perspective. The final outcome of the Conference is developing a road map
of Disability Rights in India and Socio-legal training on Disability. second outcome is
conducting workshop on Disability Research and Developing Scientific collaborative projects
on Accessibility to develop assistive technology and innovation projects in leadership of Dr
Vaishali Kolhe TISS. The National Conference organizing by I Access Rights Mission, Centre
for Disability Studies and Action, School of Social Work, Tata Institute of Social Sciences
aimed to bring together professionals, students, teachers, researchers to share the knowledge
and practices on initiatives, innovative work, and evidence based research, grassroots level
practices, intervention and inclusive practices in the development sector as well as the
rehabilitation sector which was achieved in the said conference. The purpose is to unite all
professionals under one umbrella to dialogue on the central theme of Laws, Disability Social
Work and Social Inclusion Strategies. It is important to brainstorm together the possible
solutions, practices, strategies with various stakeholders such as special educators, lawyers,
social work professionals, faculty, and corporate, therapeutic professionals and to encourage
the budding professionals to contribute in the disability sector which was successfully achieved
in the conference. The TISS Journal of Disability Studies and Research(TJDSR was shared in
the conference as three Issues of the said Journal are completed by Dr Vaishali Kolhe as editor
of Journal with rigorous peer review process. The Papers presented in the conference will be
going for the peer review for the Dec issue of TJDSR. The Conference ended with distribution
of certificate to the participants and prize winners were given the certificate for winning the 1st,
2nd and 3rd prize for the paper presentations in the conference.
