AIM
To prepare 250 mL of N/10 (or M/20) sodium carbonate solution.

THEORY
Sodium carbonate react with hydrochloric acid in acid base reaction as follows.
''Na2C0 3 + -2 HCl ~ 2 :NaCt+ CO 2 + H 20 -•'
Molecular mass of Na 2 C0 3 _ 106 _ 53 gt .
Hence, equivalent mass of Na2C03 =

Calculation of amount of sodium carbonate to be weighed (if Normality is given)

N= Wt. in grams x 1000
Equivalent weight V (mL)
N 1 Weight 1000
(For - , 250 mL solution) - = --=-- x
10 10 53 250
Weight ofNa2C03 to be weighed= 1.325 g
Calculation of amount of sodium carbonate to be weighed (if Molarity is given)

Molarity = WNa2C0 3 x 1000 _!_ = WNa 2co 3 X 1000 W, = 106 = 1.

Molecular wt. 250 20 106 250 Na 2C03 20 x 4
APPARATUS
Same as Experiment 1.

CHEMICALS REQUIRED
Anhydrous sodium carbonate (solid) and distilled water.

PROCEDURE, RESULT AND PRECAUTIONS

To be followed similar to Experiment 1.
