Positive Symptoms (of psychosis)

1. Hallucinations

1. Altered perception in any senses (visual, tactile, olfactory, auditory)


2. May be part of spiritual belief system; eg, hearing God or Jesus speaking to them
3. Need to consider other causes

1. Organic mental syndromes, such as delirium tremens, uremia, hepatic encephalopathy, head injury
2. Temporal lobe epilepsy
3. Migraine aura
Negative Symptoms (of resulting dysfunction)

1. Poverty of ideas
2. Flat affect
3. Apathy and withdrawal
4. Lack of motivation
Cognitive Symptoms

1. Judgment and executive function


2. Working memory
3. Attention
4. Concentration
5. Intellectual function
6. Social awareness
