Introduction

The Kalleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project is a multi purpose irrigation

project on Godavari river in Kalleshwaram, Bhupallapally,Telangana,
India. Currently the worlds largest muliti stage lift irrigation
project .It consists of 7 links and 28 packages.
As a part of Kalleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, Megha Engineering
and Infrastructure Limited (MEIL)’s Gayathri pumphouse of package-
8 , all seven units came into use with a capacity to pump 2 TMC
water per day.
This industial visit to Gyathri pumphouse was proposed by Mr.Harish
kumar (Asst. Proffesor) and implemented by K.Sridhar Reddy (Head
of Civil Department). The students took an active participation in
organizing this visit. The other faculty members of civil department
played a vital role in taking care of the students in each and every
situation.

Details of journey
All the students and faculty members gathered at Nagole X road,
Hyderabad by 6.30am.The journey starts from Nagole at 6.45am. the
route map was set as Nagole-Secuendrabad-Shamirpet-Gajwel-
Siddipet-Karimnagar-Ramagundam-Gayatri pumphouse.

HAD BREAKFAST AT SIDDIPET

It takes around 5 hours to reach the
Gayathri pumphouse so we had our breakfast around 9’O clock at
Siddipet

Reached gayathripumphouse
At 12pm we reached entrance of Gayathri pumphouse. The picture
below is taken at that time. The respective managers of that
pumphouse came to receive us.
Entering into the pumphouse through tunnel. As this pumphouse
occupies 1st place regarding height and structure. This pumphose is
at a depth of 470 feet beneath the earths surface(RL). To construct
the underground pumphouse, the total rock and soil excavated is
22.2 million cubic meters
The person in the pic is explaining the functioning of the pump and
how the water reaches to the groundsurface. As he said that this
underground pumphouse has gigatic 139MW motors, huge
surgepools, twin tunnels, gravity canals. The ultimate water pumping
capacity of Gayathri underground pump station is 2 TMC per day
Faculty explaining the structures, design and functioning of the
pumphpouse in detail.
The picture is of the students and faculty of Sreyas Institute of
Engineering and Technology of Civil Department at underground
Gayathri pumphouse.
The water that as pumped out flows out through a channel as shown
in above figure. This canal is 3 times bigger than Nagarjuna Sagar
right main branch canal which is biggest canal as of now
Its been around 2.30 we had our lunch and students took some
pictures over there and started at 4 pm from the gayathri
pumphouse and reached Mid maniar dam at 5pm
Had some refreshments around 8.30pm near Gajwel .

As fast as we done with the refreshments we are returning to

Hyderabad. We reached Nagole around 10.30 that was the last stop
and students reached their homes safely.
Conclusion
This industrial visit gives a lot of knowledge about the functioning of
pumps as well as it brings an enthusiasm in the students to learn civil
engineering. As civil engineering deals with the practical
considerations these kind of visits really help the students to learn
more.
We thank our Principal and the HOD of civil for permitting us to visit
the Gayathri pumphouse. As well as each and every faculty member
for supporting and taking care of during the visit.
