the burning of waste in industrial activities - more stringently

While many people claim that launching international car-free
days is an effective way to reduce air pollution, others argue that
it is not the only optimal way. There are valid arguments on both
sides, which will be discussed below.
On the one hand, there are some reasons why some people think
air pollution can be decrease by celebrating international car-
free days. For one thing, exhaust fumes from cars such as carbon
dioxide, soot emission or hydrogen sulfide is the major
contribute to air contamination. If there are no cars on the road,
less and less harmful smoke will be released into the
atmosphere. For another thing, people’s awareness in crowded
cities worldwide about the harmful effects of car’s emission and
their responsibilities can be heightened. As a result, they will be
stimulated to go to work by bike or public transport such as
subways or buses in order to reduce their carbon footprints on
the environment.
On the other hand, others are of opinion that maintaining
international car-free days is not a great idea because of several
reasons. Firstly, we can use sustainable and alternative energy
sources such as solar or wind instead of oil for vehicles. By this
way, we do not have to burn oil or fossil fuels, so as to reduce
toxic air released into the atmosphere. Secondly, policies and
regulations about waste incineration should come into force. For
example, the burning of waste in industrial activities have to be
more stringently regulated and monitored.
In conclusion, although there are many ways to reduce air
pollution, I hold a strong belief that celebrating international car-
free days is one of the most effective activity and should be
maintained.
