1.0 INTRODUCTION

The impact of computers and the internet on our lives today is likely much greater

than we realise. Obtaining information and quickly converting it into a product that

consumers want is critical to remaining in business, and all of this is done nowadays

via computers and applications or information systems. And information systems will

continue to transform businesses and our way of life. Many business leaders use

technology to manage every aspect of their organisation, from product development to

customer service. It has brought evolution in almost every field, changing the ways of

teaching and administering activities such as e-learning, e-library, and online portals

where teachers and students communicate, and information sharing has never been

better.

Student information declaration and management are among the most

important activities within a university or any educational institution, as all other

activities rely on them. As a result, putting in place an information system can be

declared a significant performance. The primary goal of this study is to improve and

automate the management and declaration of student information using a

computerized system.

1.1 PROBLEM STATEMENT

At the moment, the process of declaring and managing students' information at

the all university in Malaysia is done manually with extensive human

intervention. The information of the students are generated using a spreadsheet

application, printed on paper, attached to a wall for declaration, and then

saved. Despite having a result-generating application, the system is inefficient

because it consumes a lot of time and human resources in performing various

tasks, it is expensive, and it lacks data security and efficiency. And, at the

moment, the institution requires a sophisticated and computerised

environment. And, once implemented, it will mitigate all of the issues raised.

1.2 SCOPE

The study's goal is to create and implement a web-based student information

management system for the University, replacing the old manually done paper

work and minimising the security issues and problems it has. The proposed

system is a multi-user system built with the Java programming language and

MySQL DBMS (Database Management System) support. The system is

limited to and designed for students. They have the ability to check their

information after being given a unique username and password for a secure

login.

1.3 OBJECTIVE

The overall goal of system design is to provide an efficient, modular design

that reduces system complexity, facilitates change, and results in easy

implementation. This will be accomplished by designing a system with high

 cohesion and low coupling. Furthermore, this system will provide consistent

user-friendly interface design models as well as a straightforward transition

through the various system functions.

The objective of this project are:

 To manage student’s information .

 To reduce unnecessary paperwork in maintaining student’s

information.

 Generation of the reports and results of the students.

 Information about different student

 Information about subject offered in various semesters

1.4 Modules of the Project

 Admin module

The administrator is in charge of welcoming new students and

advancing them from one class to the next, from one semester to the

next, and from one year to the next. Managing student accounts, such

as name, address, and other changes. The administrator also manages

faulty accounts, such as adding new faculty and assigning faculty to

subjects. The administrator also updates college-related information

such as the calendar of events and information about any other events

that occur at the college. The administrator will review all updates,

such as student updates, faculty updates,  and so on. The administrator

wields the most power in the student information system.

 Student module

The student is the main focus, because every college student plays an

important role. Students can gain access to college information, course

details, subject details, faculty details, training and placement cell

information, and exam section information. The course details include

information about the branch he is studying, the academic calendar of

the college, the year wise subjects offered by the branch, the subject

details include the syllabus of the subjects, information about the staff

handling the subjects, the subjects he is currently registered for the

semester he is currently studying, attendance and internal marks of the

subjects, and he can also ask any questions about the subjects to the

staff. The placement details include information about the companies,

the eligibility criteria for attending the company's recruitment, the

recruitment process, and the date and time of the recruitment. The

placement cell keeps track of which students have been chosen for

positions with companies. The exam section details include internal

and external time tables, exam room assignments, and semester end

results.

 Faculty module

The staff can update information about students' attendance, internal

grades, and any other information about the subjects they handle. They

can also view student details to gain a better understanding of the

student's performance and improve the student's efficiency. The staff is

 also kept up to date on any college events. They can also receive

notifications from the placement cell and the exam section.

1.6 Justification

Today's market is flooded with numerous student information options from

which schools and colleges can choose. Customers are spoiled for choice with

a plethora of innovative products and services. Managers and employees no

longer have access to the Student Information System. The growth of the IT

industry has been phenomenal in recent years, as more people have discovered

the benefits of using this platform. As a result, we will make this system

operational and provide Software and Services in the future.
