We understand that funding your studies is a big consideration.
This factsheet contains all the information you need about fees
and funding, so you can plan ahead and feel more in control of
your finances.

How much is my course?
The total cost of the Psychology MSc is £9,950*. You’ll be able to pay this in module-by-module
instalments, spreading the cost of your fees over the duration of your studies. The course is
divided into six 20-credit modules plus a 60-credit MSc Thesis, and the table below outlines what
you can expect to pay for each one.

When do I need to pay?

During the enrolment process, you’ll be asked to pay for your first module. Your Enrolment Advisor
will support you through this initial payment process.

After your first module is complete, you’ll need to pay for each module one week before its start
date. Your Student Success Advisor will send you a reminder as you approach the module payment
deadline and offer helpful guidance on how to pay. Students that miss the deadline may have their
online learning account access suspended.

If you believe you may be unable to pay, or wish to postpone your next module, your Student
Success Advisor will be able to talk you through your options.

How do I pay?
You can pay your fees online using our payment portal. We accept most major credit and debit cards.
Your Enrolment Advisor will give you access to this when you are due to make your first payment. If
you have any problems with the payment system, please let them know as soon as possible.

I’m from the UK. Can I get a
postgraduate loan?
Most applicants for postgraduate study in the UK
are eligible for a government loan. You can learn
more about loan options on our funding and
scholarships page.
If you are expecting to fund your course with a
student loan, there are a few important details
to note:
• The conditions of your student loan will vary
depending on your provider. For example,
the instalment plan for Student Finance
England may differ to Student Finance Wales,
Northern Ireland or Scotland. Please ensure
that you check over the details of your loan,
paying special attention to your payment
schedule.
• Many student loans companies, including
Student Finance England, will only pay your
first instalment after you have enrolled in the
course. This means you may have to fund
your first module payment yourself. Make
sure you check whether this is the case for
your loan. Your Enrolment Advisor is on hand
to explain more about this process.
• Students applying for a loan with Student
Finance England will receive their loan in
three instalments per year, over two years.
Please note, your loan instalments might not
match up with your module payment dates,
so you may have to do some careful financial
planning to make sure you hit your deadlines.
However, your Student Success Advisor
can help you plan your payment schedule
and you will be able to reach out to them
whenever you have questions or concerns.

Can I still get a loan?
Depending on your nationality, you may be
eligible for national loans from your home
country or even a private loan. Contact your

out the different ways in which they support
academic study. Your Enrolment Advisor may
also be able to assist you, so ensure you have a
conversation with them about funding. For more

Will I need to pay for anything else?
There should be no additional costs associated
with your studies outside of the course fee.
Your course cost will be fixed from your date of
enrolment, so you should not see any module
fee increases over the course of your studies.
However, you will need to ensure that you have
access to a computer and an internet connection
that fulfil our basic technical requirements.
Should you wish to visit the Northumbria
University campus for graduation, you’ll also
need to fund the transportation costs yourself.
Please note, attending graduation is entirely
optional on all of our distance learning courses.
Are there any discounts available?
Northumbria University offers an alumni
discount on all postgraduate courses which can
reduce your course costs by 20%. To apply for
the discount, make sure you mention to your
Enrolment Advisor that you’re a Northumbria
University alumni.
I have sponsorship from my employer.
How does this affect my payments?
Employer sponsorship is a great way to fund
your studies. To secure sponsorship, you’ll need
to supply your Enrolment Advisor with a letter
of intent from your employer before you enrol in
the course. From there, the University will send
an invoice directly to your employer, who will pay
your fees on a modular basis. Please note, you
won’t be able to enrol on your course until the
University has received a proof of funding letter
from your employer.
