COURSE PLAN

BLG 231E
COURSE OBJECTIVES

The aims of this course are

To make students familiar with the terminology of digital

systems.

To provide students a comprehensive understanding of the

fundamentals of digital circuits.

To equip students with the basic skills of analyzing and

designing digital circuits.

BLG 231E
COURSE OUTCOMES

At the end of this course you will

understand the concepts of Binary and Boolean (Logic)

arithmetic,

be aware of various types of coding techniques,

learn how to obtain a relationship (or function) between input

and output of a digital system,

learn how to use some techniques such as graphical

(Karnaugh map) and tabular (Quine-McCluskey) method to
minimize (or simplify) functions,

BLG 231E
COURSE OUTCOMES

At the end of this course you will

learn how to analyze and design combinational circuits with

logic gates,

understand how gates are interconnected to form more

convenient devices flip-flops, registers, etc.,

gain an understanding of the basic functional and timing

(clocking) properties of state devices (latches and flip-flops),

learn how to analyze and design synchronous sequential

circuits.

THE PROJECT GUIDE
During the term, you are going to work in a group project.

Each group will have 3 or 4 students.

The project and the report must be presented on a day.

The project contains two part, which theoretical information

part and circuit.

The project will be given 14th week of term.

BLG 231E
PROJECT REPORT GUIDE
Each group must submit a well-written report. The report must be
written in English and be sufficiently detailed (minimum 10 pages).

It must be written with 12 pt font size and 1.5 line space (title 14 pt
bold font).

The first page is the cover page and must include the title of the
project, course name, each student name and id number in the
group.

While writing the report, use your own words. Copying writings,
figures directly from related references and other internet resources
is not acceptable.

BLG 231E
PROJECT REPORT GUIDE
Organize the report with the following sections as given order:

1. Abstract: Briefly introduced what your design is and mention what

you have succeeded in the project (minimum 50 words)

2. System Design: Give detailed information about your design.

Explain how to determine the input(s) and output(s) of the system.
Give the steps of obtaining Boolean function(s). Give the simulation
circuit and the results that prove your system works.

3. System Implementation: In this section, explain the process of the

implementation. Place the pictures of your design process and the
test results. Mention about the standards (IEC, DIN, ANSI etc) that
you considered in the design process.

BLG 231E
PROJECT REPORT GUIDE
Organize the report with the following sections as given order:

4. List of Component: Give detailed information about the components

used as electronics material.

5. Cost Analysis: Give detailed information about price of components

and total cost of the project.

BLG 231E
PROJECT REPORT GUIDE

8. Digital Electronic Circuit Diagram: Circuit drawing with a electronics

drawing software ( Proteus, Electronics Workbench etc. )

BLG 231E
PROJECT REPORT GUIDE
Organize the report with the following sections as given order:

9. Circuit Working Principle: Give detailed information about working

of circuit.

10. Conclusion: Evaluate your design in this section. Compare the

simulation and experimental results. Give your comments on how to
improve the design and the results. If you have a failure in the
implementation, give the possible reasons and propose solutions.

11. References: Papers, books and other resources that you used in
the report must be listed in this section.
The resources must also be properly cited in the text.
