GATHERING INFORMATION ABOUT THE PLACE
VISITING THE PROJECT AREA
Detailed Report:

Water pollution is a problem of serious environmental issue in India as its 70 percent

surface and groundwater resources contaminated by various pollutants such as biological,

toxic, organic, and inorganic. Among all the largest source of water pollution in India is

untreated sewage. Agricultural runoff and unregulated small scale industry are the other

sources of pollution. Most of the rivers, lakes and surface water in our country are polluted due

to industries, untreated sewage and solid wastes.. Almost 40 million litters of wastewater

enters rivers and other water bodies every day with a very small fraction of it being adequately

treated. Due to the polluted stretches in India the agricultural revenues decreases to 9% and

also a 16% fall in agricultural yields downstream areas

Detailed Report:
Some remedial measures should be adopted to protect the
poor masses of the country. Water pollution near oceans, rivers, lakes
should be controlled. Waste ingredients should not be disposed in oceans,
rivers, lakes and ground water. Controlled use of pesticides and fertilisers
should be done as this will prevent runoffs of the material into nearby
water sources. Clean water bodies will result in the sustained development
of the country particularly the vulnerable sections of the society. It is the
dire need of the hour to control water pollution to achieve the vision of the'
healthy nation'. In our study we have selected bavisettivari peta village to
carry out the investigation on the water pollution problems and the
challenges faced by the people living in that locality .We suggested to
implement the following cost effective water treatment methods to reduce
the pollution of water Solar distillation bicycle filter Constructed wet

Detailed Report:
ELURU district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is located in
ELURU MANDAL
As of 2011 Census of India, ELURU had a population of 5308. The total
population constitutes, 2660 males and 2648 females. 648 children are in the age
group of 0 – 6 years. The average literacy rate stands at 85.55 %.
BAVISETTIWARI PETA is the one of the place situated in the region. The
history of ELURU dates back to the second century CE and has great
prominence in the history of Andhra. VENGI near ELURU was the capital of
Andhra from the second century to the twelfth century, ruled by
SALANKAYANAS, VISHUKUDINAS, and Eastern CHALUKYAS. VENGI
was the capital city of ANDHARAPRADESH for more years than any other city
in Andhra Pradesh. ELURU was part of the Buddhist kingdom of VENGI.
ELURU is at 16°42′42″N 81°06′11″E and has an average elevation of 22 m (72
FT). It lies on the Eastern coastal plains.[21] It is about halfway between the
Krishna and Godavari rivers and about 50 kilometers inland from the Bay of
Bengal. The TAMMILERU RIVER and the Krishna and Godavari canals pass
through the city, before the river. The ELURU canal from Krishna empties into
KOLLERU Lake near the ELURU plays a major role in education for urban and
rural students from nearby villages. It has an average literacy rate of 83.90%
with, according to the 2011 census, a total number of 155,894 who are literate.
This includes, 80,434 men (88.13%) and 75,460 women (79.82%). Eluru
Municipal Corporation is the civic body of Eluru. It was first constituted as a
municipality in 1866. It was upgraded to Municipal Corporation on 9 April 2005
from selection grade municipality. It is spread over an area of 14.50 km2 (5.60
sq. mi) with 50 wards

FIRST AWERNESS PROGRAMME HAD BEEN CONDUCTED WHY THE
AREA POLLUTED
Detailed Report:

Eluru urban agglomeration is spread over an area of 23.85 km2 (9.21 sq. mi)
and its constituents include Eluru municipal corporation, census towns of
sanivarapupeta, satrampadu, gavaravaram, tangellamudi, and partly out growths
of komadavole, eluru (rural) villages. Law and order in Eluru is maintained with
the help of eight police stations, which includes one woman and one traffic
police station. These are under the jurisdiction of the 'Additional Judicial First
Class Magistrate'. Australia, Germany and the UnitedOUR study area for the
project is BAVI SETTI VARI PETA, associated in the eluru region and the
details of the area are as follows: • It is the area of combined subdivision of 9th
and 6th in ELURU. • It has population of around 3500. • 1250 families were
living in that area and it is having two SACHIVALAYAM’S. • In that village
one lake has been polluted that’s is BAVISITTIVARI

SHORT-TERM AND LONG-TERM SOLUTIONS: (I)Short-term solutions:

The short-term solutions are firstly government should provide awareness to the
villagers around pound not to through any of the waste into the pond. Plastic
should be banned in the region of BAVVI SETTI VARI PETA. Fishers and
farmers should be given guidelines to not use any chemicals that are harmful to
environment in their respective work fields. (II)Long-term solutions: Long-term
solutions are should be maintained as follows they are most economical water
treatment methods FILTRATION CHLORINATION
SEDIMENTATIONS COAGULATION AND FLOCULATION SOLAR
DISTILATION BICYLE FILLTER CONSTRUCTED WET LAN

Objective of the Activity Done:

FINAL RECOMMENDATION OF PURIFICATION TECHINQUE
FINAL PROJECT REPORT IS COMPLETED
Detailed Report:

RECOMMENDATIONS AND CONCLUSIONS: From the above mentioned

long term and short term solution for the pollution problems in the village we
are suggested to adopt of simple and economical water treatment method of
using constructed wet land
Constructed wetlands are artificial wastewater treatment system consisting of
shallow (usually less than 0.5m deep) ponds or channels, which have been
planted with aquatic plants(Elephant ear plants), and rely upon natural
microbial, biological, physical and chemical processes to treat wastewater.
These systems of wastewater treatment offer several potential advantages as
compared to conventional treatment system, this include; simple construction
can be constructed with local materials (fine aggregate &coarse aggregate),
require less skill to operate and maintain, process stability under varying
environmental conditions, Utilization of natural processes, and lower
construction, operation and maintenance costs. There are two basic types of
constructed wetland namely; free water surface flow constructed wetland in
which the flow of water is above the sediment surface, and subsurface flow
constructed wetland in which the flow of water is primarily below the sediment
surface. These systems use wetland plants, soils and their associated
microorganisms to remove contaminants from wastewater
The pollutant removal mechanisms in a constructed wetland plant comprise
several physical, chemical, biological and biochemical processes and this
include; sedimentation, filtration, aerobic and anaerobic microbial degradation,
plant uptake, soil sorption, precipitation and etc... Water lettuce is important in
the treatment of waste water. The use of water plants in waste water treatment is
economical, is a natural way of treating water. Water lettuce is a free-floating
aquatic weed that rapidly forms dense mats covering rivers, dams and irrigation
canals. It can restrict water flow, increase water loss by transpiration and serve
as a breeding ground for mosquitoes
