strive to report facts accurately
or we will lose our credibility.
Accuracy is achieved through a
combination of commitment,
skill, transparency and
correction.

While brevity create

simplicity. The longer a
sentence is, the more difficult it
is to understand.

Lastly, clarity- always

remember that clarity is
important. Class, you should
gather only facts and have them
organized before you start
writing.

So, there are key components

of a good news story. First is,
Attention- getting headline.
When writing a headline, you
have to think of a unique one,
use interesting adjectives in
your headlines and be concise,
use as few words as possible to
preview your articles main
point.

Second is, A strong lead

containing 5 W’s and 1 H (who,
what, when, where, why and
how). So, the 5 W’s and the 1
H refers to the six questions
that a reporter should answer in
the lead paragraph of the news
story.

Third is Use of quotes, class

you may use direct quotations
to record the opinions,
emotions, and unique
expressions of your sources.

Fourth is Real facts (truth and

accuracy matter). Class always
remember that in writing a
news story, it’s your obligation
to tell the truth, truth and
accuracy is vital.

Fifth is A strong summary. A

well-written summary provides
a basic understanding of a piece
of literature, media or history.

Then last is Organization of the

news.

happened last week it’s not.
Also, significance and
proximity is what makes the
story newsworthy. In None ma’am

the closer a story hits home, the
more newsworthy it is.
