Intermediate Ring on the Compressor Wheel
Turbochargers NA/S, NAIT and NR34/S Cus 198 • 09/03

Reason for the introduction The contact face of the compressor wheel to the locating ring represents
a highly loaded area. In order to protect this surface during operation
against possible wear marks resulting from relative movements, we have
introduced an intermediate ring made of high-duty plastic. Compressor
wheel damages caused by fretting corrosion between the compressor
wheel back and the locating ring can thus be avoided .
On the newly delivered turbochargers of the NAlS, NAlT9 and NR34/S
series, the intermediate ring is part of the scope of supply.
Retrofitting Retrofitting on previously supplied turbochargers of the NAlS, NAlT9,
NR34/S and NAlT71T8 series is recommended and can be carried out as
a part of normal maintenance work.
Attention! The retrofitting of the intermediate ring (520.039) always
requires the use of a new and matching locating ring (520.035) with
groove A (see figure 1)
Width W (locating ring + intermediate ring) corresponds to the width of
the previous locating ring .
Availability Intermediate ring and locating ring can be delivered at short notice. We
recommend an appropriate stocking so it is on hand for maintenance
works which require dismounting the compressor wheel.
