life situation which involves calculation of probability and
manifest the traits of self-discipline, critical thinking and
cooperation.
At the end of the lesson, the learner must be able to:
1. illustrate an experiment, outcome, sample space
and event.
2. count the number of occurrences of an outcome in
Objectives an experiment: (a) illustration; and (b) tree diagram
3. find the probability of a simple event.

The teacher will discuss the objectives of the lesson.

The learners will answer the given problem guided by the

B. Mental Set /Sharing the In a lunch menu, a costumer can choose a main dish of
Objectives chicken, beef, pork, or vegetable, together with a drink of
Teacher Made coffee, tea, or soft drink. A costumer select a main dish
Inquiry-Based Approach and a drink at random. Find the probability that the
selection:
a. is a chicken dish with coffee,
b. consists of a beef dish, and
c. is a vegetable dish with tea.

C. Demonstration / Modeling
Integrative Approach Calculation of Probability

Probability - It is a branch of mathematics that deals with

the occurrence of a random event.
Random experiment - It is a process in which the result
cannot be predicted with certainty.
Outcome - It is a possible result of an experiment.
Event - It is a collection of outcomes.
P(E) = no. of outcomes favorable to E
total no. of possible outcomes

Example: A card is drawn at random from a deck of 52

playing cards.
Find the probability that the card shown is:
a. an ace

Solution:

There are 4 aces

∴P(ace) = 4/52 = 1/13

“ALL ABOUT DICE”
D. Input / Activity
Constructivism Two fair dice are thrown. Find the probability
that:
a. the sum of the two dice is 8; and
b. at least one die is 3.

ANALYSIS

In the Previous Activity,

E. Analysis / Guided Practice 1. What are the total possible outcomes?
2. Using the formula, what is the probability that the
sum of two dice is 8?
3. What is the probability that at least one die is 3?

INDEPENDENT PRACTICE

Direction: a. Draw a tree diagram to represent the possible

outcome;
b. Find the probability that:
i. Both balls are white.
ii. The 1st ball drawn is white and the 2nd ball drawn is
red.
iii. There are 1 red ball and 1 white ball.

A bag contains 2 white balls and 1 red ball. Two balls are
drawn at random one by one from the bag with
F. Check for Understanding / replacement.
Independent Practice Answer:
Reflective Approach

b. Find the probability that:

i. P(both balls are white)= 4/9
ii. P(the 1st ball is white and the 2nd ball is red)= 2/9
iii. P(1 red ball and 1 white ball)= 4/9

“3 CHILDREN”

G. Application A family has three children.

Collaborative Approach/Constructivism
a. Draw a tree diagram to show the possible gender of the
children.
b. Assume that the probability of a child being a male is the
same as the probability of a child being a female. Find the
probability that the family has:
i. 3 girls ii. 2 boys and 1 girl
Answer:

b. i. P(3 girls)= 1/8

ii. P(2 boys and 1 girl)= 3/8

The learners will be asked how to calculate a given

probability problem.
Probability - It is a branch of mathematics that deals with
the occurrence of a random event.
Random experiment - It is a process in which the result
H. Wrap up cannot be predicted with certainty.
Outcome - It is a possible result of an experiment.
Event - It is a collection of outcomes.
P(E) = no. of outcomes favorable to E
total no. of possible outcomes

Show your solution and box your final answer.

In throwing a fair die, find the probability of getting:
I. Feedback / Assessment
Reflective Approach a. a“3”
b. an even number
c. c. a number greater than 4

J. Closure/Reflection / Create one (1) probability problem about your favorites.

Assignment Make a tree diagram and solve your problem.
