B. Motivation: Review a lesson
Questions:
a. What was our lesson yesterday?
b. What is compound interest?
The teacher will shares her screen with the class,
presenting a table, and instructs students to complete the
table on their own using their calculator. The student who

1. What have you observed in our activity?

ANALYSIS 2. How did you find the missing amount in the table?
3. Based on what we did, do you have any idea
what is our topic for today?
 Ordinary annuity is an annuity where payments
are made at the end of each payment interval.
 The regular payment is denoted by R.
 Amount of an annuity is the sum of all the
payments at the end of the term, denoted by S.
 Present value of an annuity is the value of all
payments at the beginning of the term, denoted
by A.

Ordinary Annuity Amount Formula:

ABSTRACTION
(𝟏 + 𝒊)𝒏 − 𝟏
𝑺 = 𝑹( )
𝒊
𝑺 = 𝑨(𝟏 + 𝒊)𝒏
Example:

1. At the end of every three months. Gracia deposits

₱ 3,500 to a bank that pays 10% compounded
quarterly. How much will she have in her account
at the end of 4 years?
Given:
R= ₱3,500
j = 0.10
m= 4
t =4 years

Unknown:
𝑖 =?
𝑛 =?
S=?

Solutions:

0.10
𝑖=
4
𝑖 = 0.025

𝑛 = 4 𝑦𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑠 𝑥 4
𝑛 = 16

(1 + 𝑖 )𝑛 − 1
𝑆 = 𝑅( )
𝑖

(1 + 0.025)16 − 1
𝑆 = ₱3,500 ( )
0.025

𝑺 = ₱𝟔𝟕, 𝟖𝟑𝟎. 𝟕𝟗

2. Ryan makes regular payments of ₱8,000 at the

end of every six months at 12% compounded
semi-annually. How much would he have paid at
the end of 10 years?
Given:
R= ₱8,000
j = 0.12
m= 2
t =10 years

Unknown:
𝑖 =?
𝑛 =?
S=?

Solutions:

0.12
𝑖=
2
𝑖 = 0.06

𝑛 = 10 𝑦𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑠 𝑥 2
𝑛 = 20

(1 + 𝑖 )𝑛 − 1
𝑆 = 𝑅( )
𝑖

(1 + 0.06)20 − 1
𝑆 = ₱8,000 ( )
0.06

𝑺 = ₱𝟐𝟗𝟒, 𝟐𝟖𝟒. 𝟕𝟑

Ordinary Annuity Present Value Formula:

𝟏 − (𝟏 + 𝒊)−𝒏
𝑨 = 𝑹( )
𝒊

𝑨 = 𝑺(𝟏 + 𝒊)−𝒏
Example:

1. How much must be deposited now in a bank that

pays 8% compounded every month if a monthly
withdrawal of ₱7,000 is desired for 3 years?

Given:
R= ₱ 7,000
j = 0.08
m = 12
t =3 years

Unknown:
𝑖 =?
𝑛 =?
A=?

Solutions:

0.08
𝑖=
12
𝑖 = 0.006666666

𝑛 = 3𝑦𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑠 𝑥 12
𝑛 = 36

1−(1+𝑖)−𝑛
𝐴 = 𝑅( )
𝑖

1 − (1 + 0.006666666)−36
𝐴 = ₱7,000 ( )
0.006666666

𝑨 = ₱𝟐𝟐𝟑, 𝟑𝟖𝟐. 𝟔𝟒
2. What is the present value of an ordinary annuity if
its value at the end of 8 years is ₱ 90,000 when
money is worth 12% compounded quarterly?
Given:
S= ₱ 90,000
j = 0.12
m=4
t = 8 years

Unknown:
𝑖 =?
𝑛 =?
A=?

Solutions:

0.12
𝑖=
4
𝑖 = 0.03

𝑛 = 8 𝑦𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑠 𝑥 4
𝑛 = 32

𝐴 = 𝑆(1 + 𝑖)−𝑛
𝐴 = ₱ 90,000(1 + 0.03)−32
𝑨 = ₱ 𝟑𝟒, 𝟗𝟓𝟎. 𝟑𝟑
The teacher will shares her screen, displaying the
questions, and students will respond individually. The
teacher assigns students to answer the unknown by
selecting students whose screens display a raised hand
button.
1. Solve for 𝑖 , 𝑛 and present value of ordinary
annuity.

Given:
R = ₱ 5,000
j = 0.10
m=2
t =2 years

APPLICATION
Unknown:
𝑖 =?
𝑛 =?
A=?

2. Solve for 𝑖 , 𝑛 and amount of ordinary annuity.

Given:
R= ₱ 3,000
j = 0.05
m = 12
t = 3 years

Unknown:
𝑖 =?
𝑛 =?
S=?
Test 1. Solve the given problems.
1. Find the amount and present value of an annuity
of ₱15,000 quarterly payments if money is worth
12% and compounded quarterly.
2. Robert borrowed a sum of money from the bank
at 14% compounded quarterly. He makes
₱15,000 payments every three months for 7
years. How much did he borrow?

Test 2. Complete the table.
