JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Nutrition Officer MCHN

TEAM/PROGRAMME: Humanitarian LOCATION: 1 in Rwamwanja, 1 in Rhino

GRADE: 4 CONTRACT LENGTH: 12 months

CHILD SAFEGUARDING:
Level 3 – the responsibilities of the post may require the post holder to have regular contact with or access to
children or young people.

ROLE PURPOSE:
Nutrition Officer MCHN will support implementing quality Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition (MCHN)
activities at the health facilities in one of the 2 targeted settlements. The Nutrition Officer – MCHN will work
with Save the Children’s field office to ensure the prevention of stunting among children from 6 to 23 months and
pregnant and lactating women in respect to the donor standards and the increase of attendance for MNCH services

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Reports to: Field nutrition coordinator

Dimensions: Save the Children supports programs in most parts of the country – West Nile, Northern, Western,
North-eastern and Central regions of Uganda with a current staff complement of approximately 300 staff and
current expenditure of approximately 20$ million each year.

Staff directly reporting to this post: None.

Budget Responsibility: TBC

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:


Smooth and accurate running of TSFP:
 Ensure that protocols are strictly followed and implemented.
 Support and supervise the VHT to take accurate anthropometrics measurements.
 Ensure the registration of new beneficiaries for MCHN program by following strictly the protocols and
provide individual nutrition counselling based on the nutrition status, age of the child/pregnancy stage,
provide information on the MCHN activities, the use of the ration.
 Ensure the nutrition follow-up of each beneficiary based on the strict admission and exit criteria, identify
potential discrepancy and correct them accordingly; refer the case to the health facility or TSFP in case of
need.
 Ensure the smooth flow of the beneficiaries from the triage to the exit of the MCHN.
 Participate to the forecasting and provision of the nutrition products and other supplies for each site in a
timely manner.
 Ensure proper, clear and accurate data recording on registration books and MCHN cards.
 Demonstrate the preparation of the ration for each new admission.
 Ensure that all program materials are well maintained.
 Check the hygiene at each stage of the MCHN distribution.

Reporting:
 Complete and submit to the Field Nutrition Coordinator the relevant weekly and monthly reports for the
MNCH activities.
 Check the coherence between the stock report and the attendance of MCHN beneficiaries.
 Make sure reports are accurate and complete.
 Report problems encountered to the Field Nutrition Coordinator.

screening and referral, community case follow-up.


 Propose solution to solve any problem faced and report them to the Field Nutrition Coordinator.
 Participate actively to the weekly internal technical meetings.
 Ensure technical nutrition support to the VHT.

Others:
 In case of emergency, be prepared to contribute to the delivery of an appropriate and timely response.
 Comply with all relevant Save the Children policies and procedures with respect to child safeguarding
policy, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies.
 Any other reasonable duty as may be assigned that is consistent with the nature of the job and level of
responsibility.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:


Essential:
 Diploma in nutrition with minimum two years working experience with NGOs.
 Working experience of one year in IMAM or Maternal and Child Health program.
 Experience in nutrition program and community work.
 Experience in training of volunteers on IMAM program.
 Good relations with other people.
 Good capacity to work in a team and flexibility.
 Good interpersonal and communication skills
 Good writing and presentation skills
 English fluency (verbal and written) required and local language (preferred)
 Experience working in a refugee context.
