Ordinary Examination

Time Allowed: 24 (TWENTY FOUR) hours

Instructions:

• The exam consists of two sections, Section A and Section B


• Section A consists of one (1) compulsory essay question worth
10 marks.
• Section B consists of four (4) essay questions of which students
should answer three (3). Each question is worth 10 marks.
• Your answers should not exceed 2000 words
• The examination counts for 40% of the marks in the unit

I declare that I recognise that this BMA334 examination is a take-home examination. I

Students must attempt the one (1) compulsory question from Section A.

Question1

What is meant by open innovation?  Critically evaluate the issues that China-based
entrepreneurs and established Chinese businesses might face in adopting open
innovation in the business development processes?

SECTION B
Students must answer any THREE (3) of the following FOUR (4) questions. Each
question is worth 10 marks for a total of 30 marks. 

Question 2

Compare and contrast at least six different sources of innovation that might be used by
an organisation.  Use examples to support your answers. 
[10 marks]

Question 3

What is meant by an innovation network, and why it is important in the innovation


process? Critically evaluate at least five different types of innovation networks that may
be formed.  Use examples to support your answers.  
[10 marks]

Question 4

Outline and discuss the stage-gate model of innovation. What are the issues that need to
be considered at each stage?  Use examples to support your answers. 
[10 marks]

Question 5

What is knowledge management, and what are some of the critical challenges an
organisation faces in knowledge management?  Outline and discuss the different types of
knowledge within an organisation? 
[10 marks]
