in violence in both scale and scope with heavy
artillery, tanks, missiles, and drones have being
used by both sides - the largest in decades.

• Armenia a nd Azerbaijan have expressed an


interest in negotiating terms for a ceasefire in the
extremely conflicted breakaway region of Nagorno
Karabakh.

• The conflict over the region has been decades-long


and has been prompted by the Azerbaijani la nd
occupied by ethnic Armenia ns.

• Armenia has claimed that they are ready to


engage with Russia, USA, and France who are
mediators to the conflict.

• Azerbaijan , aided by Turkey, claims that they are


willing to resort to ceasefire if Armenia withdraws
troops from the region.

INTERNATIONAL MEDIATION
• The Organisation for Security and Cooperation in
Europe (OSCE) is the mediating group to the
conflict seeking to broker peace, resolution, a nd
bring stability to the region.

• The OSCE is co-cha ired by Russia, USA, and


France serving as intermediaries between the two
wa rring sides.

• Turkey is Azerba ijan's strongest and most vocal


supporter whereas Russia backs Armenia.

• French President Macron has a lleged that 300


'ji hadist' fighters from Syria have passed
through Turkey to get to Azerba ijan. Turkey and
Azerbaijan deny these allegations.
