Be Part of Something Bigger

EMMETI are one of the many brands which form part of the
Rettig Group. The Rettig Group is a Finnish family business
that creates value for generations through sustainable and
long-term growth. The Rettig Group owns Rettig ICC -
Europe’s leading manufacturer of heat emitters.

Rettig ICC’s UK brands include EMMETI, MYSON, PURMO and VOGEL&NOOT.

Our state-of-the art production facilities are carefully located to service local
markets, focussing on leading positions in selected markets and customer values.

As part of Rettig UK, EMMETI offer a wide range of plumbing and heating system
solutions focussing on technical customer service and product performance to
meet the market demands.

Multilayer Pipe Factory - Forcate, Italy

On the 9th of January 2009 EMMETI Spa built and developed a dedicated
PE-Xb/Al/PE-Xb multilayer pipe factory in Forcate (PN), Italy covering 10,000m2
in order to accomodate two production lines, research and development facilities,
as well as a fully equipped post manufacture quality and stress test laboratory to
ensure maximum reliabilty and quality of the finished product.

The factory has the capacity to produce upto 35,000,000 metres per year. This
along with the production facilty in Ponte S.Marco which produces the Press Fit
range and other brass fittings means that EMMETI can now offer a full Press Fit
solution including pipe, press fittings and tooling.

Gerpex - The Full System

Gerpex Sysytem Applications

Technical Information
Gerpex is the EMMETI range of Multilayer Composite Pipe
(MLCP), press fittings, adapters and tooling developed for
use on traditional branch type systems as well as point to
point manifold based systems.
The Gerpex System, with the wide range of pipe sizes,
fittings and accessories, provides a complete and highly
reliable solution for any project and is suitable for use with:

• Heating systems
• Chilled water air-conditioning systems
• Hot and cold plumbing systems
• Compressed air systems

Technical Information
Ø16 Ø20 Ø26 Ø32 Ø40 Ø50 Ø63 Ø75

Construction
Multilayer pipe for plumbing systems made of composite material through a technologically advanced process in which
a PE-Xb (cross linked polyethylene) pipe is combined with an aluminium core (minimum thickness 0.2mm) welded on top and
coated on the outside with another layer of PE-Xb (PE-HD, size 40-75).
Gerpex pipes combine the processing and durability advantages of a plastic pipe together with the sturdiness and dimensional
stability to temperature and pressure of a metal pipe.

Surface Mounted Installation

In surface mounted installations, in false ceilings, in the
gaps of dry wall systems (e.g. plasterboard) and in shafts,
the pipes must be adequately secured with suitable
bracketry in accordance with the recommended maximum
distances as shown in the table below.
Maximum distance “S” for bracketing surface S

Surface Embedded Installation

In surface embedded installations, the pipes must be
suitably secured and there must be a minimum distance
between fixings of 80cm on straight lengths, and they
should be placed 30cm before and after each bend. A = max 800mm

It is possible to use boxing, adhesive tapes specifically
adapted for such applications, or coverings in an
expanded plastic material that has been adequately sealed.

Minimum Radius of Bends

Technical Information

The bending of pipes must be carried out in accordance with the minimum values provided by the following table:

It is preferable to use elbow unions to

form curves on pipes with a diameter T
greater than 26mm.

In bending the pipe you must also avoid
L=5xØ
putting pressure on the unions already
installed and the distance between a R
union and the beginning of the bend
must be greater than 5 x Ø, where Ø X
is the external diameter of the pipe.

In surface mounted installations or installations in false ceilings and shafts, longitudinal thermal expansion can be

Preparation and Assembly of the Pipe and Press Fittings

Press Fittings
Technical Information

Cutting
Cut the multilayer pipe with a pipe cutter or shears, verifying
that the cut is perpendicular to the pipe axis (Fig. A and B).

Calibration and De-burring

Calibrate the cut end using the relevant calibrator, which
calibrates, de-burrs and chamfers the ends of the pipe (Fig. C).
Fig. A Fig. B
This operation is essential, as it ensures the correct internal
diameter of the pipe and creates the rounded internal edge
that eases insertion of the fitting.

Inserting the Fitting

Insert the pipe fully into the fitting; the sight hole in the plastic
ring ensures correct insertion can be seen (Fig. D).

Pressing

Place the jaws around the blue plastic ring (Fig. E) by Fig. C Fig. D
matching the collar of the plastic ring with the groove of the
jaws (Fig. F). Start the hydraulic press fitting tool until it clicks,
signalling the completion of the press fitting operation (Fig. G).

The operation must be done carefully so that the pipes are
kept free of any tension. Once the fitting has been pressed,
avoid placing the joint under any tension.

Completion of Pressing
Remove the pressing device and open the jaws again.
Fig. E Fig. F

Compression Fittings

Gerpex Multilayer Composite Pipe can also be used

with EMMETI compression fittings to connect to heating
or plumbing manifolds and also to compression fittings
including 15mm, 22mm and 28mm copper compression.
These fittings enable the installer to connect to tap
connectors, isolation valves and radiator valves or to
transition onto copper tails with no requirement for hot works.

Preparation of Pipe
Pipe preparation is carried out for compression fittings in the
same way as for press fittings (Fig. A, B and C).

Pipe Connection Fig. G

Once the pipe has been prepared it should be inserted into
the Monoblocco fitting. Please ensure that the pipe is aligned
and push onto the fitting, do not turn on insertion as this
could potentially disturb or damage the double o-ring (Fig. H).
The pipe is clamped onto the brass insert of the fitting by EMMETI-GERPEX PEXb/AL/PEXb16x2 PER

the split olive when tightened onto the compression fitting

as shown. Take care not to over tighten the fitting onto the
compression connection as this could damage the o-ring
seal on the face of the fitting.

Gerpex pipe and fittings are suitable for use in both
domestic and commercial applications and are WRAS
approved for use in hot and cold water supplies. System Solutions
The Gerpex Multilayer Composite five layer Pipe (MLCP) is available Pipe and
in 16mm - 75mm outer diameter. The pipe comprises an inner layer
of cross linked PE-Xb and an outer layer of PE-Xb upto and including Fittings
32mm whilst our PE-HD outer layer is used for pipe sizes 40mm - 75mm.
All MLCP comes with an internal butt welded aluminium layer providing
a solid oxygen barrier as well as giving rigidity and form retention to
the pipe.

The Gerpex pipe fittings have been developed to be used with the
Gerpex MLCP as a clean, simple and more efficient alternative to
traditional jointing methods. The brass bodied press fittings with
double o-ring technology are compatible with TH, B and F profiles.
(See Pressing Profile Compatibility Chart on page 8). We also offer a
range of Monoblocco fittings which have been developed to allow the
Gerpex MLCP to be connected to our manifold systems and standard CERT

copper compression fittings in a range of sizes.
