MANAGEMENT

Management skills:
A manager’s jobs require a range of skills. Some of you may find a long list of
skills when searching for management skills on Internet, but there are only three
types of skills that are essential for a successful management process including
technical skills, human skills and conceptual skills.
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
Technical skills mean the understanding and proficiency in the performance of
specific tasks. It’s not related only for mastery of the methods, techniques and
equipment involved in particular functions like engineering or manufacturing,
but they are also skills that need specialized knowledge, analytical ability in
order to increase sales, design different types of products and services, market
the products and services, etc.
Technical skills are specially crucial for individual contributors or first-line
managers. As we go through a hierarchy from the bottom to higher levels, the
technical skills lose their importance. Top managers with high technical skills
sometimes have to step back so others can do their jobs effectively.
HUMAN SKILLS:
Human skills present a manager’s knowledge and ability to work with people
and to work effectively in a group. It consists of the capability to motivate,
coordinate, lead, communicate and resolve conflicts. Human skills are vital for
managers at all levels and in all types of organization because they will help
them to make more effective use of human potential in the company. And
employees want managers who listen to them, build positive relationship, and
show an interest in their lives and careers. ‘cause without employees, there is no
need for the existence of managers.
CONCEPTUAL SKILLS:
Conceptual skills include the cognitive ability to see the organization as a whole
system and the relationships among its parts. That means he/she has to think
strategically by analyzing and diagnosing different states. In such a way, they
can predict the future of the business or department so as to identify, evaluate,
and solve complex problems. Conceptual skills are needed by all managers,
especially top managers because they take big responsibilities in decision
making, resource allocation, and innovation.
