Agenda: Teachers provide students skill examination feedback as well as comments respectively:

Responsible for the skill content including:
 Newborn bathing

Several points that students should be focused on and noticed about:


1. Students should introduce themselves before any actions or procedure
2. Requesting mothers’ approval is a must.
3. Infection control like hand hygiene should be performed before touching patients or equipment.
 According to the checklist, there should have at least 3 moments for hand hygiene.
4. Environment temperature for the room is 25°C-27°C.
5. Environment preparation should improve, prepare that equipment needed at once but not one by
one due to the reason of convenient and baby safety (*Important issue)
6. Identification should include birthdate, etc.
7. During the bathing, remember to wash your baby face. In addition, you should take off the
baby’s clothes excluding the diaper when washing faces and hair.
8. How to correctly be holding the baby. (Football hold).
9. Remember to fold the baby’s ear to prevent water inflow and apply the towel to dry their hair.
10. Remember to keep the baby warm by covering the clothes.
11. Apply a diaper before cleaning the umbilical cord.
12. 3 towels we should use during new-born bathing.
 1st towel: the time applied before hair and face washing
 2nd towel: for drying baby’s hair and body after washing
 Blanket: after bathing procedure
13. Umbilical cord care: keep the stump clean with plain water.
14. Perform any procedure on the working table but not on the baby car.
15. Fill the basin or infant tub with half or one-third of water.

 Abdominal Palpation
 Breastfeeding

A.) Abdominal Palpation


1. Patient identification is a major critical point.
2. Assessment and note any of the contraindications.
3. Oral environment security for safety, air, warmth, etc.
4. Instruct the patients to empty their bladder before proceeding.
5. The position for the abdominal palpation. (Dorsal recumbent position)
6. The steps for third and fourth maneuver should be done completely.
7. Should report the results to the patient.
8. The fetus heart rate should be 110-160 beats/min.

B.) Breastfeeding
1. Pay attention to the way of how to massage one’s breast. (*C-shaped)
2. ‘How to latch baby to nipple?’ should be focused on, with your baby's chin firmly touching your
breast and their nose clear, their mouth should be covered the entire areola as possible, etc.
3. Pay attention to the ways of how to burp the baby. (*2 ways)
4. Make good use of small bench and pillows as aids.
5. Kindly remind the mother to perform hand hygiene and clean their breast before breastfeeding.
