Dear Parent,

RE: INTERNATIONAL MATHEMATICAL OLYMPIAD 2023 TRAINING CAMP

Uganda Mathematical Society (UMS) is once again organizing an International Mathematical

Olympiad (IMO) training camp.

The Camp will be residential and is scheduled to take place from Sunday 8th up to Sunday 15th
January 2023.

The aims of the training are:

i. to equip the learners with different problem-solving techniques in mathematics.
ii. to motivate and enable the young gifted mathematicians discover their talent at an early age.
iii. to create an opportunity for the exchange of information in mathematics among learners.
iv. to identify participants that will represent Uganda in the 64th International Mathematical
Olympiad (IMO) starting 2nd July 2023 to 13th July 2023 Competition in Chiba, Japan.
v. to prepare a team for the 2023 Pan African Mathematics Olympiad (PAMO) in Kigali from
13th to 22nd of May 2023.
vi. to prepare a team for the 2023 Eastern Africa Mathematics Olympiad (EAMO) in Kigali on
20th of April 2023.
vii. to identify a junior team to participate in the African Junior Mathematical Olympiad
(AJMO) 2023.

The training will be conducted by a team of international and local expert trainers in the IMO areas
of Algebra, Geometry, Number Theory and Combinatorics. The venue of the training is Light
Academy Secondary School – Lweza.

The Uganda Mathematical Society has selected exceptionally talented young mathematicians from
both Ordinary and Advanced Levels (O and A level) to participate in the camp. The selection is based
on the results of the UMS National Mathematics Contest that was held in May 2022.

I am pleased to inform you that your son/daughter KINOBE MICHAEL MARVIN of ST.
HENRY'S COLLEGE KITOVU has been selected to participate in the above training camp.

NB: The participants are requested to take note of the following:

1) Each participant is required to contribute two hundred sixty thousand Uganda shillings
(260,000 /=) only. This amount will cater for meals, trainers’ remunerations and securing
