Disney and Pixar's Luca teaches the importance of respecting the culture of other

people regardless of their different origins. The whole story revolves around two people

who are different from each other that are trying to live with the rest of society in order

to achieve freedom. This reaction paper hopes to prove the message that is being told

by the story. The message of respect and proper manners that are needed in the

society that we live in. This paper aims to educate the audience about the indifference

of culture, no matter how different they may seem.

The story starts off introducing the main characters; Luca the sea monster, and his

family. Soon after, Luca gets tempted by Alberto to explore above sea level, because

Luca has never been there before. Luca eventually rises, and transforms into a human

form, and he will only go back to being a sea monster once he makes contact with

water. Alberto then goes on to talk about owning a Vespe, and learning about a

tournament that will earn them enough money to get one. But one major difficulty that is

experienced throughout the time that they are there is trying to hide their real identity,

since they live in a place full of sea monster hunters. Scared of being caught, they enter

the tournament either way, and get assisted by a friend they met, Giulia. But before the

start of the tournament, Alberto starts a conflict with Luca and both of them almost get

caught by sea monster hunters, which resulted in Alberto leaving Luca alone. Luca then

convinces Alberto to enter the tournament and win for the sake of their friendship with

Giulia. Despite the difficulties, they won the tournament but their identity has been

found out due to the rain. But, Giulia’s father accepts the fact that they won the

tournament and announces them as the winner. And now they have befriended the

whole village, even though they were oppressed by them before.

This teaches the importance of respecting other cultures, especially the ones that are

very different from our beliefs and standings. Even though Luca and Alberto were

feared and suppressed, they still managed to give a positive attitude and vibe and won

the tournament. Just because they are different doesn't mean they are evil. Even if they

are from different origins, they are still the same person as we are.
