The most popular classification of teaching styles is based on the use of authority. Depending on the use of authority, there are three basic styles of teaching: (i) Autocratic (i) Democratic, and (ii) Laissez-faire (i) Autocratic or Authoritarian teacher: + Autocratic teaching is a traditional style of teaching. + These are teacher-centered or content centred. + In this method, the teacher has full control over students and teaching. + Here, the teacher is more active and learners are passive listeners. + No emphasis is given on learner abilities, capabilities, interests and personality. * Autocratic styles of teaching are lecture method demonstration method, team teaching, tutorial etc. (ii) Democratic or Participative teacher: + Ademocratic classroom teacher never imsulis or embarrasses students, but tries to serve as a model of good behaviour. + In the democratic classroom, the teacher USesimethods to encourage creative and critical thinking. s/he trusts her students and give them opportunities to explore the new knowledge. + The student in the democratic classroom is allowed to ask questions and get a lot of independence.
