Reserve Bank of India (RBI) tweaked guidelines for banks on incremental capital and
provisioning requirements in relation to unhedged foreign currency exposures, amid the
weakness in the rupee vis-a-vis the US dollar.
The rupee has depreciated about 10 per cent against the US dollar thus far in 2022.
The incremental provisioning requirement is in the range of 20 basis points (bps) to 80 bps. In
cases where banks face a potential loss or hit to earnings before interest and depreciation
(Ebid) of more than 15 per cent but up to 30 per cent, lenders will have to increase
provisioning by 20 bps.

Together, the government and LIC own 94.72 percent of IDBI Bank. The government owns
488.99 billion shares, or 45.48 percent of IDBI Bank, while Life Insurance Corporation (LIC)
has 529.41 billion shares, or 49.24 percent of the bank. In the bank, public shareholders own
5.2 percent of the stock.
The total shareholding of LIC and the government will drop to 34% after the stake sale.
To enhance the effectiveness of its grievance redressal systems, the Reserve Bank of India
(RBI) has urged Credit Information Companies to designate an internal ombudsman (IO) by
April 1, 2023.
The Central Bank made the decision in August to include CICs in the scope of the RBI-
Integrated Ombudsman Scheme 2021 in order to broaden its appeal.
The Banking Ombudsman Scheme is introduced under Section 35 A of the Banking Regulation

National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has said there will be no charge for RuPay
credit card use on Unified Payments Interface (UPI) for transactions up to ₹2,000.
Credit cards can now be linked to a Virtual Payment Address (VPA) .
Nil Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) would apply for this category up to the transaction amount
less than and equal to ₹2,000.

from their customers via credit or debit cards every time a card is used for payments in their

India’s unemployment rate has drastically dropped to 6.43 per cent in September due to an

Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) Financial Inclusion Index (FI-Index) in March 2022 stood at 56.4.
The FI-index in March 2021 was 53.9.

RBI’s Financial Inclusion Index
RBI introduced the Financial Inclusion Index (FI-Index), which is a measure of the extent of
financial inclusion in India. FI-Index incorporates the inclusion details of banking, investments,
insurance, postal and pension sector in India.
The value of FI-Index will range between 0 to 100. Where 0 denotes complete financial exclusion
while 100 denotes full financial inclusion.
Parameters of FI-Index: The FI-Index comprises of three parameters, namely- Access (35%),
Usage (45%), and Quality (20%) with each of these consisting of various dimensions, which are
computed based on a number of indicators. In total there are 97 indicators.
The annual FI-Index for the period ending March 2021 is 53.9 while for the period ending March
2017 it is 43.4. RBI will release the FI-Index in the month of July every year. There is no base
year for this Index.

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of Rs 2.33 crore on Spandana

Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued a revised regulatory framework for Urban Cooperative
Banks (UCBs) based on the recommendation of the Expert Committee on Urban Co-operative
Banks (the Committee) under the Chairmanship of Shri N. S. Vishwanathan, former Deputy
Governor, RBI.
The Committee recommended a four-tiered regulatory framework for UCBs based on size of
deposits of the banks and their area of operations.
The recommendation were made for 4 key parameters which are – net worth, Capital to Risk-
weighted Assets Ratio (CRAR), branch expansion and exposure limits.
Net worth
For Tier 1 UCBs operating in single district a minimum net worth of Rs. 2 crore has been
stipulated.
For all other UCBs (of all tiers), the net worth is of Rs. 5 crore.
This will strengthen the financial resilience of the banks and enhance their ability to fund their
growth
Capital to Risk-weighted Assets Ratio (CRAR)
For Tier 1 banks, the minimum CRAR requirement is retained at 9% under current capital
adequacy framework based on Basel I.
For Tier 2, Tier 3 and Tier 4 UCBs, it has been decided to revise the minimum CRAR to 12%
under current capital adequacy framework.
Exposure Limits
For housing loans, it has been decided to assign the risk weights on the basis of Loan to Value
(LTV) Ratio alone which would result in capital savings.
Tier 1 – All unit UCBs and salary earner’s UCBs (irrespective of deposit size), and all other UCBs
having deposits up to Rs. 100 crore;
Tier 2 – UCBs with deposits more than Rs. 100 crore and up to Rs. 1000 crore;
Tier 3 – UCBs with deposits more than Rs. 1000 crore and up to Rs. 10,000 crore;
Tier 4 – UCBs with deposits more than Rs. 10,000 crore.

Egypt inks MoU with India to build green hydrogen factory in Suez Canal Economic Zone worth
$8 billion
Egypt has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with an Indian company to build a
green hydrogen factory in the Suez Canal Economic Zone.
The Indian ReNew Power Private Limited will build a factory that will produce 20,000 tonnes of
green hydrogen per year.
The total worth of this project is estimated at $8 billion
ADB approves USD 96.3 million loan for safe drinking water project in Himachal Pradesh.
Manila-headquartered funding agency, Asian Development Bank (ADB), has approved loan
worth USD 96.3 million (about Rs 770 crore) to fund safe drinking water and sanitation project
in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh.
The ADB has provided the loan under the Himachal Pradesh Rural Drinking Water Improvement
and Livelihood Project.
This project is in line with the Jal Jeevan Mission, a national flagship programme of Government
of India, which aims to provide piped water to all rural households by 2024.
World Bank clears US$1 billion loan for PM Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission
(PM-ABHIM).
World Bank has approved a loan of USD 1 billion to support India’s flagship PM Ayushman
Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission(PM-ABHIM).
The loan comprises two complementary loans of USD 500 million each. These are
“Transforming India’s Public Health Systems for Pandemic Preparedness Program (PHSPP)”
and “India’s Enhanced Health Service Delivery Program (EHSDP).
Nasscom Foundation and Google have announced setting up a call centre in collaboration with
a not-for-profit body Indian Society of Agribusiness Professionals (ISAP) to help women farmers
scale up their business.
The “DigiVaani Call Center” project is being run on a pilot basis and initially around 20,000 rural
women entrepreneurs shall be covered across six states, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand,

have been increased from ₹20 lakh to ₹50 lakh for RCBs with assessed net worth less than
₹100 crore; and from ₹30 lakh to ₹75 lakh for the rest. These limits were last revised for UCBs
in 2011 and for RCBs in 2009.

Public sector banks (PSBs) more than quadrupled their net profit in the fiscal year 2021-2022.
During the financial year 2021-22, the aggregate profit of 12 state-owned banks was Rs
66,539 crore, up 110 percent from Rs 31,816 crore in the previous year. For the first time in
years, all 12 state-owned banks made a profit.
Only two PSBs (Central Bank and Punjab & Sind Bank) declared losses in FY21, dragging
down the overall net profit.

India Post Payments Bank (IPPB), Department of Post (DoP), and Ministry of Communication
have introduced issuer charges for the Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AePS).
AePS Issuer transaction charges will be in effect from June 15, 2022.
Over the free transaction limit, AePS issuer cash withdrawals and cash deposits will be
charged Rs. 20 plus GST for each transaction and mini statement transactions will be charged
Rs. 5 plus GST per transaction.
