Composition: The artwork is made of assorted cereals, including Honeycomb,

Fruit Loops, Fruity Pebbles, Cheerios, Lucky Charms and Cocoa Puffs.
Subject matter: It is a portrait of the “Sesame Street” icon, Big Bird waving an American flag and it's
a sarcastic response to Mitt Romney's suggestion that the government cut funding for PBS.

Colour: Jason Mecier’s choice of colors in this artwork was impressive for having colorful cereals to
portray the nostalgic image of Big Bird.

Line: “I don't think cheating our children on education is the right thing to do,” Mecier told
NBCNews.com about his reaction to the Republican candidate’s remarks.

Value: Jason Mercier just wants to keep the big yellow Sesame Street character spirit alive in case
the presidential candidate Mitt Romney gets his way and there will no longer be a subsidy to the
Public Broadcasting System (PBS).

How is the work organized?

The composition of this artwork produces this beautiful mosaic portrait of Big Bird using 6 different
cereals. He did an excellent job of distributing the colors for each cereal, especially the part of its eye
balls, mouth, and the flag.

Interpret:

The artist is trying to say something political by choosing Big Bird as the subject
to send a message to the public, including the presidential candidate, to keep
PBS Channel running regardless of what happens after the election.

What do you think of the work?

The artwork caught my attention because of how it looked, and after doing my
research, it became more interesting to me because of the artist's use of
subject. Using cereals to represent a childhood TV show is a wonderful way to
connect the subject and message of the artwork.
