Abstract:

The goal of this project was to do load flow analysis of a system,to observe the effect
of adding (100MW,200MW,300MW,20MW) WECS-DFIG(wind energy conversion
system based doubly fed induction generator) to a specific bus (10) and to compare
the effect of LLL fault at the bus with wind turbine and at the bus with maximum
power generation. We used IEEE 24 bus system for this purpose.

Introduction:

The Wind Energy Conversion System (WECS) based Doubly Fed Induction Generator
(DFIG) has experienced a rapid development in the world, which leads to an
increasing insertion of this source of energy in the electrical grids. There are 3 wind
power generation project currently running in Bangladesh.
Before implementing any project in real time, the possible effect of that component
on the existing system is checked several times using softwares. Our project is a very
small model of this testing. Here, we tested the effect of adding a WECS-DFIG to the
existing IEEE 24 bus system.
The existing system has a total power supply of 3000MW. After adding the WECS, the
total load thus the power demand remains same, so to keep the generation same the
power generation is distributed among all the generators. So, the power generated
by each generator should decrease. We examine if this decrease overload the system
or any abnormality is observed after this addition with the help of the software PSAF.
The normal operating condition of a power system is balanced three-phase ac. A
number of undesirable but unavoidable incidents might temporarily disrupt this
condition. If the insulation of the system should fail at any point, or if a conducting
object should come in contact with a bare power conductor, a “short circuit” or
“fault” is said to occur. Power system faults may be categorized as one of four types
in order of frequency of occurrence: single line to ground (LG), line to line (LL),
double line to ground (LLG), and balanced three phase (LLL) faults. It is important to
determine the system voltages and currents during fault conditions so that protective
devices may be set to detect and minimize the harmful effects of such contingencies.
When three lines of the conductors short with each other, LLL fault occurs. This is a
Symmetrical fault. In this project we will also analyze the effect of LLL fault in the wind
turbine bus(10) and the maximum power generator bus(23) using PSAF software.

IEEE bus systems are used by researchers to implement new ideas and concepts. The
IEEE 24-bus reliability test system was developed by the IEEE reliability subcommittee
and published in 1979 as a benchmark for testing various reliability analysis methods.
The one line diagram of IEEE-24 bus system is given below:
