coagulation factors are produced. Therefore, hepatic dysfunction can lead to decreased
levels of the substances required to keep coagulation and hemostasis under check.
Unless vitamin K insufficiency is the reason, PT prolongation may signify serious hepatic
dysfunction.

Finding the cause and extent of liver damage is important in guiding treatment.
Restrict sodium and water intake, depending on amount of fluid retention. Bed
diuretic.
