1. WHY DO YOUTHINK WAS ERIKA UNDERACHIEVING WHEN SHE WAS ON
HER 6TH GRADE?
 The learner become underachieving because she is not interested in the
topics in th 6th grade, her line of interest and level of IQ is not fit in the
topics and activity tasked in 6th grade level.
2. HOW DID THE CHANGE IN THE APPROACH HELP ERIKA PERFORM
BETTER IN HER STUDIES?
 She may be able to work hard in the level and fields of education in
college, because it fits her IQ level, the interest and motivation is there
and the adviser in college was able to give her satisfaction and better
school performance.
3. WHAT DID YOU LEARN FROM THE CASE ABOUT HANDLING GIFTED
LEARNERS?
 That diagnostic test is important, most of the time conducted at the
beginning of the school year or first day of school in this way or through a
random question a educator will be able to analyze and classify what the
students know and still don’t know about the topic to discuss, after this you
may be able to come up with a fit teaching strategy.

NAME CONCEPT
Charm Cortez For me giftedness is the thing that even I exert less effort i can do
easily because im gifted. Other may experience difficulty in that
situation but for me I can do easily in a short period of time.
Princes Lyra My concept about gifted and talented learner is to explore and utilize
Lagunlin my talents. It will also help me in the future especially in my course
because i have practical skills such as to encourage my critical and
creative thinking.
Allysa Kate Gambol A gifted and a talented learner is someone who has a more advance
skill than what he/she should have in his/her age. This may be
influenced by early exposure to a certain field of learning or innate
talent acquired through inherited genes.
Jizsel Marina My concept about a gifted and talented learner is self determination,
trusting one self, and showing capabilities in talents and skills that
may inspire and motivate others.
Divine Rillera THEY ARE ONE OF A KIND. These gifted and talented learners
excel in their ability to think, reason, skills and judge, making it
necessary for them to receive special educational services.
Gemma Manuel It is the potential of every child for high ability in a certain area, and
demonstrate outstanding performance achievement

things but the methods that we do to catch up with lesson... Same
with talented learners maybe we can things easy for them to learn
but trust me there is also time that they struggled to effort on doing
things.. But one thing I know about talented and gifted learners is that
they are eager to learn. They want their knowledge to be exceeded.
Carla mae. A gifted and a talented learner is not just about being an average
Marquez student but they are the students who always succeed in their
academics, getting a high grades, awards and they are the students
who are very creative.
Jake Bryan These are the learners who have exceptional skills and abilities; that

JOHN IVAN A gifted child refers to a child having innate exceptional mental ability

Characteristics of Gifted and talented children:


*Enthusiastically interested in unique topics.

*Deeper emotional sensitivity at a younger age.

*Ability to discern complex materials above their age peers.

*Effective and creative problem-solving skills.

*Require less time and practice to master a concept.

*Deep understanding of themselves, their interpersonal relations.

*Strong sense of inquisitiveness.

Intervention:
*School educational programme such as the early entrance to the
school which involves advanced learning, an extension of general
educational objectives.

*Enrichment programmes that offer greater opportunity for these


children than average children.

*Educational programme that challenges both individual and group-


oriented creative ability, understanding and social responsibility.

*Special teaching methods that encourage children to utilise their


potentials effectively.

Example: Difficult Home assignments that are appropriate for these


children.

2.2 AMONG THESES FIVE CATEGORIES WHICH ONE BEST CAPTURES THE
INTERVIEWEES DEFINITION OF GIFTEDNESS?

GEMMA MANUEL’S DEFINITION- I believe that giftedness is an measurable skills that


is beyond expectation and beyond normal, the percentage that he/she aims are beyond
IQ cut off percentage considered as a geniuses that is one of a kind and should have a
proper educational platform and needs.

3.ARE THERE OTHER DEFINITION OF GIFTEDNESS THAT CAME OUT DURING


THE INTERVIEW? WHICH CANNOT BE CAPTURED BY ANY OF THE FIVE GIVEN
CATEGORIES? WHAT DO THESE DEFINITIONS SAY?

 There is no other definition define by the interviewees about the concept


of Giftedness that does not belong to a specific category.

4.CONSIDER ALL DEFINITIONS GIVEN BY THE INTERVIEWEES. TRY TO COME


UP WITH AN INTEGRATED DEFINITION OF GIFTEDNESS BASED ON THEIR
RESPONSES.

 There are different terms to define a gifted learner. There are one of a
kind, in a one district or school there are only 5% learners that is
considered aa gifted. So, it is very important to provide educational needs
that fits to them. Adjust teaching strategies according to their IQ level,
distinguished a diagnosis test to determine their needs, what they already

know and still don’t know. There should be special school for them like
their advance skills and mental abilities should cope up by leveling them
with students who have the same abilities regardless of age. We should
always think that there are special with special needs and equally
deserves a quality education, be inclusive and let them fit in. Students are
all unique with different needs.

Talented Definition Those who excel in specific creative
abilities are considered gifted and
talented
Creativity definition Those who possess superior creative
abilities are considered gifted or talented
Other definition A gifted learner may not always follow
rule; tends to be domineering and
argumentative tends to tune out and is
excessively competitive.
Integrated definition Knowing the different definitions, we

characteristics of a gifted and talented
learners like good vocabulary, ideas
which are often original or unique, alert,
responds quickly, good memory, and etc.
In this situation we should always adjust
teaching strategies and activities to our
normal and special learners and always
provide a quality education that every
learners deserve.
