In Indonesia, curriculum development is fairly active. The requirement to always incorporate the
most recent references is crucial. In the following, we have created a teaching module for junior
high and high school English classes. Despite the fact that this module is not yet complete, we
hope that what has been assembled might serve as a resource for useful student teaching resources.

This Teaching Module includes lesson ideas and exercises to assess students' proficiency with this
module.

All of the writers hope that the included lesson plans and resources might be utilized as references
for more effective classroom practice.

The writers express gratitude to Mrs. Ima Fitriyah, who directed the development of this
instructional module, as well as the editors, design templates, and those who submitted the

F1. Mempresentasikan kalimat saran secara tepat berdasarkan permasalahan pada sebuah
situasi kepada individu baik kepada orang tua, guru, maupun teman sebaya dalam
berinteraksi sosial.
F2. Mengimplementasikan terkait penggunaan ragam kosakata dan tata bahasa secara
tepat dan sesuai saat menulis atau berbicara dalam berbagai konteks.
F4. Memahami makna tersirat dan unsur kebahasaan dari sebuah kalimat atau teks pendek
yang berkaitan dengan kehidupan sehari-hari siswa dalam berinteraksi.

Pertemuan Pertama
1. Opening
a. Greeting and praying.
b. The teacher checks students’ presence to check students’ attendance by calling
name of students one by one.
c. The teacher tells about today’s topic: Giving Suggestions.
d. The teacher tells the purpose of today’s material.
e. The teacher gives a clue for students to introduce of what is giving suggestion in
daily life.
2. Main Activity
a. The teacher plays video of material from Youtube about giving suggestions in

b. The teacher explains the material from video of Youtube for students about
giving suggestions.

from short conversation on English podcast.

a. The teacher gives a feedback about today’s material.
b. The teacher makes conclusion of giving suggestions.
c. The students are requested to learn a lot about today’s material.
d. The teacher tells other activity in the next meeting.

Pertemuan Kedua

1. Opening
a. Greeting and praying.
b. The teacher checks students’ presence to check students’ attendance by calling
name of students one by one.
c. The teacher tells the purpose about today’s lesson: Giving Suggestions.
d. The teacher gives a brainstorming for students to review a material about giving
suggestion in previous meeting.
2. Main Activity
a. The teacher gives next material about how to give suggestions that was
expressing for someone based on the problems and current situations in social
interaction with explanation from Youtube’s video and power point.

b. After watching the video and read power point about the material, the teacher
classifies the students into some groups of presentation. One group consists of
2-3 students.

c. The students should do the activity to practice speaking skill with main topic
“giving suggestion” in daily life. Group activity in this presentation should make
short conversation.
d. Every group should present their group activity in the front of class, for other
groups give comment, suggestion or question to assess students’ responsibility
in discussion session.
3. Closing
a. The teacher gives comments in every group of presentation.
b. The teacher gives feedback related today’s material about giving suggestions.
c. Students are requested to review a material.
d. The teacher gives assessing for students’ in the class.
e. Closing and praying.

1. Definition of Giving Suggestion

Giving Suggestion dalam Bahasa Inggris adalah sebuah expressions atau ungkapan untuk
memberi saran. Misalnya, ketika ada sebuah masalah, mungkin saja kita dapat menyelesaikan
masalah tersebut dengan membutuhkan bantuan orang lain. Sebaliknya kita juga bisa
membantu orang lain dengan cara sederhana seperti memberikan sebuah saran atau suggestion
dalam bahasa Inggris.

5. Example of Making Suggestion Sentence


There are some kinds of making suggestion sentence, such as:
a. How/What about + -ing
Contoh:
How about going to the cinema tonight?
(Bagaimana kalau pergi ke bioskop malam ini?)
What about having a healthier lifestyle?
(Bagaimana kalau memiliki gaya hidup yang lebih sehat?)
b. How about + noun phrase
Contoh:
How about a cup of coffee before we get to work?
(Bagaimana dengan segelas kopi sebelum kita mulai bekerja?)
c. How about + simple present
Contoh:

6. Agreeing and Disagreeing


Disamping beberapa ungkapan “Asking and Giving Suggestion” diatas, dibawah ini juga
terdapat respon yang sering digunakan dalam pelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Contoh-contoh
respon dibawah ini bisa digunakan jika seseorang memberikan sebuah saran, ada
kemungkinan orang tersebut menolak atau menerima saran (agree/disagree). Berikut ini

A. Capaian Pembelajaran
1) Reading-Reviewing

By the end of Phase F, students independently read and respond to a wide range of texts
such as narratives, descriptives, expositions, procedures, argumentatives and discussions.
They read to learn and read for pleasure. They locate, synthesize and evaluate specific details
and gist from a range of text genres. These texts may be in the form of print or digital texts,
including visual, multimodal or interactive texts. They demonstrate an understanding of the
main ideas, issues or plot development in a range of texts. They identify the author’s purpose
and make inference to comprehend implicit information in the text.

2) Writing-Presenting

By the end of Phase F, students independently write an extensive range of fictional and
factual text types, showing an awareness of purpose and audience. They plan, write, review
and redraft a range of text types with some evidence of self-correction strategies, including
punctuation, capitalization and tenses. They express complex ideas and use a wide range of
vocabulary and verb tenses in their writing. They include topic sentences in their paragraphs
and use time markers for sequencing, also conjunctions, connectives and pronoun references
for linking or contrasting ideas between and within paragraphs. They present information
using different modes of presentation to suit different audiences and to achieve different
purposes, in print and digital forms.

A. Related Material

1. What is the procedure text?

Procedure text is a text that explains or helps us how to make or use something. Its social
function is to inform or describe how something is completely done through a sequence of steps.
The communicative purpose of this text is to describe how something is made through a sequence
of actions or steps. There are three generic structures in the procedure text. The first is goals or
purposes. The second is the materials or tools. The third and the last are steps or methods. To know
the text that we read is a procedure or not is so simple. You can read the title if the title is started
with ‘how to make…’ or ‘how to use…’ it can be certainly defined that the text is procedure text.

2. Definition of Procedure Text

There are three definitions of procedure text:

• Texts that explain how something works or how to use instruction/operation manuals e.g.
how to use the video, the computer, the tape recorder, the photocopier, the fax.

• Texts that instruct how to do a particular activity e.g. recipes, rules for games, science
experiments, road safety rules.
• Texts that deal with human behavior, e.g. how to live happily, how to succeed
3. Generic Structure of Procedure Text
• Goal: It states the goal to be achieved, for the example: How to make use printer, etc.
• Material or Ingredient: It lists the materials or ingredients needed. It often gives the detail
on the size, color, numbers, shapes, quantity, etc. (e.g.: the material to cook omelet are two
eggs, one onion, vegetable oil, etc.)
• Step: (e.g.: first, wash the tomatoes, onion, …., the second cut the onions becomes slice,
etc.)

4. Language Feature of Procedure Text


a) Simple present tense
Procedure text must be written using the Simple Present Tense. This is because in
procedure text there are fact sentences about how to make or do something.

b) Command Sentences (Imperative Sentences)


What are imperative sentences in procedure text? Imperative sentences are always
preceded by verb 1 from action verbs or verbs that involve physical activity. So, we don't
need to use the subject at the beginning of the sentence. Example:
• Add 3 onions and mix it well. This sentence begins with verb 1, add. There is no subject
at the beginning of the sentence.
• Do not spray water on the control panel of the washing machine.
• Serve it warmly in the rice bowl.
c) Connectives
Connectives are used in a procedure text to connect the steps in it so that the list of
instructions made is coherent and easy to understand. Example: firstly, first, second,
secondly, then, after that, finally, and so on.
d) Adverbs (adverbs)
Adverbs are used to give an adverb of time. There are 2 types of adverbs or adverbs used
in procedure text, namely:
• Adverb of time or adverb of time that indicates how long we have to do something.
Example: in 10 minutes, for 1 hour.
• Adverb of manner or description of how to do something. Example: slowly, well,
evenly.

considered newsworthy or important. It means if there is an important event that should be
known by many people, then this event deserves news. Well, the news text is called the news

worth to be news.

News Item Text is used to inform readers about events of the day which are considered

cases of violations. As many as 25,459 violators have confirmed and paid ticket fines, while

to have trimmed the number of traffic violators by 27 percent.
