This document outlines how to install the IP20 protection cover on a GE Universal Relay (UR) device to yield an IP20
safety rating.
Introduction
The IP20 cover minimizes potential danger to users by covering electrical wires at the back of a UR device. It prevents
finger contact with the electrical connections. It meets international enclosure rating standards to the IP20 level.
The IP20 kit is an optional accessory sold with UR products. It includes brackets, cable ties, Lexan covers, and screws.
There are two variants and use depends on the number of slots on the rear of the UR chassis, either six or seven.
Six slots — C30, C60, C70, D30, D60, F35, F60, G30, G60, M60, N60, T35, T60
Seven slots — B30, B90, L30, L60, L90
The following figures show examples of six and seven-slot devices.

The intent of the cover is to improve in-field use to reduce the likelihood of exposure to
CAUTION potential danger. The user is responsible for operating the equipment with caution and
within end-product specifications.
If parts are missing or defective, do not substitute others. Contact GE technical support.

using three screws supplied in the cover kit. Apply a torque of 11 inch-pounds when tightening the screws.
When attaching the cover, do not substitute screws longer than those provided with the cover,
NOTICE else damage to the boards and erroneous communication can occur.
3. With power off and following instructions in the applicable instruction manual, connect the wires to the back of
the UR device. GE recommends using 90° lags instead of flat lag connectors to facilitate organization of the wires
through the IP20 cover.
