This document outlines how to install the IP20 protection cover on a GE Universal Relay (UR) device to yield an IP20
safety rating.

Introduction
The IP20 cover minimizes potential danger to users by covering electrical wires at the back of a UR device. It prevents
finger contact with the electrical connections. It meets international enclosure rating standards to the IP20 level.
The IP20 kit is an optional accessory sold with UR products. It includes brackets, cable ties, Lexan covers, and screws.
There are two variants and use depends on the number of slots on the rear of the UR chassis, either six or seven.
Six slots — C30, C60, C70, D30, D60, F35, F60, G30, G60, M60, N60, T35, T60
Seven slots — B30, B90, L30, L60, L90
The following figures show examples of six and seven-slot devices.

The intent of the cover is to improve in-field use to reduce the likelihood of exposure to
CAUTION potential danger. The user is responsible for operating the equipment with caution and
within end-product specifications.
If parts are missing or defective, do not substitute others. Contact GE technical support.

Unpack and inspect
The table outlines the contents of the kits. Kits differ by the top and bottom brackets. They can also be ordered
separately or as installed when ordering a UR. The brackets are identifiable by part numbers, which are printed on the
parts.

Installation
When the cover is already assembled, use relevant parts of this section as reference to connect the wires.
The process to assemble the cover and connect the wires is outlined in this section. You install the UR device in the
field, then install the IP20 cover. The process is as follows:
• Install the IP20 bottom bracket
• Wire the UR device
• Install the IP20 top bracket
• Install Lexan covers

IP20 COVER - INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS 3

All sources must be de-energized when installing the UR device and cover kit. Any attempt
WARNING to install equipment with live sources can result in permanent injury or death.

To install the IP20 cover:

1. Install the bottom bracket as follows. With power off, at the back of the UR device, remove the bottom three
screws that line up with the bracket from the module cover plate. Do not remove any other screws.
