PROPERTIES OF EIGEN VALUES

 Any square matrix of order n has n eigen values.

 The sum of eigen values of a matrix is the sum of
the elements of the principal diagonal(trace of a
matrix).
 The product of eigen values of a matrix is equal to

Namrata Gore
its determinant.
 The eigen values of a triangular matrix are just
the diagonal elements of the matrix.
 Any square matrix A and its transpose A’ have the
same eigen values.
 If λ is the eigen value of a matrix A, then 1 / λ is the
eigen value of A-1.
 The set of eigen values of matrix A is called
spectrum of matrix A and the largest eigen value
is called spectral radius of A. 35
