WHAT IS
PHOTOGRAPHY?

Photography is the art, application, and practice of creating

durable images by recording light, either electronically by
means of an image sensor, or chemically by means of a light-
sensitive material such as photographic film. It is employed in
many fields of science, manufacturing (e.g., photolithography),
and business, as well as its more direct uses for
art, film and video production, recreational purposes, hobby, and
mass communication.
Typically, a lens is used to focus the light reflected or emitted
from objects into a real image on the light-sensitive surface
inside a camera during a timed exposure. With an electronic
image sensor, this produces an electrical charge at each pixel,
which is electronically processed and stored in a digital image
file for subsequent display or processing. The result
with photographic emulsion is an invisible latent image, which
is later chemically "developed" into a visible image,
either negative or positive, depending on the purpose of the
photographic material and the method of processing. A negative
image on film is traditionally used to photographically create a
positive image on a paper base, known as a print, either by using
an enlarger or by contact printing.

Museo Camera visit report along with photos

Museo camera Report

The Museo Camera was founded in the year 2009, and has grown out of personal collection of celebrated Indian photographer and
visual historian Aditya Arya who has been collecting antique cameras for than 40 years . This place houses a rare collection of antique
cameras that date back to the 19th century when Photography was formally introduced . If you're interested in photography you just
can't skip this one
Museo camera is Located in DLF Phase 3 in Gurugram, it has unique vintage cameras museum showcasing analogue, still and video
cameras, over a century old. I fee that it's really a good museum which gives the feel of British Era and before. We can see here that
how photography was evolved and how the cameras were transformed from one big lens with its auxiliaries to multiple lens. I Would
recommend it to people who are into Cameras to must visit this place. They have collections of WW2 cameras, early canon and Nikon
models etc. There is photo gallery as well which showcases the natural photographs of mountains and villagers. The camera museum
has ticket of around 200₹ , although the Art gallery is free to visit. Overall it's a Good place to visit at weekends. It Takes 1-2 hrs. to fully
explore the museum, and is also a Great place for photography. It Also has a restaurant inside. You will see camera here from the period
of 1800s and historical famous pictures and unknown pictures of Indian freedom struggle. The interior is hyper professional! Don't go
on its location, the museum is fantastic. Every little information regarding cameras can be found here! Besides, you can click end
number of photographs and save them as your memories of this awesome place. They also organize workshops teaching mobile
photography. This place taught me that every piece in a camera has its own purpose.
It is hard to believe that this museum has a private collection . I cannot imagine the amount of dedication needed to maintain such
beautiful pieces in a tropical country like India . The place has the ambience that everyone would love to see and feel , especially in a
crowded city like Delhi. Also the staff is very polite. I would recommend everyone to visit this place at least once.
• The Museo Camera Centre shows how museums can be dynamic art spaces
• There are more than 2,500 cameras, hundreds of original prints and photographic equipment from the year 1850
on display.
• The recently opened Museo Camera Centre for the Photographic Arts, India’s first not-for-profit, crowd funded
museum in Gurgaon is different. Envisaged by ace photographer and visual historian Aditya Arya and aided by the
government of Haryana, the museum has chandeliers made of old cameras and film roll-shaped tickets, as well as
interactive displays which familiarize the audience with everything from old fashioned studio portrait settings to the
workings of a pinhole camera. The galleries showcase photography’s transition from silver grains to storage devices,
film rolls to memory cards, and formats measured in millimeters to images described in megapixels. "The onus of
developing museums in India has somehow come to rest only with the government,” he says. “The Museo Camera
example shows that museums are best curated and run by people who are passionate about them!”

Assignment 3
Outcome of both the visits

Outcome report - Qutub minar and Mehrauli archaeological park

The report concludes our experience during the Photo walks:-

The Qutub Minar [Photo walk]

So, after attending my first Photo Walk by college , with all my classmates and faculty I had a really great experience in learning as
well as working as a photographer, in this Photo walk I got to experience some of the very different things.
Not all the surroundings give you the same treatment or expertise to learn . Every road leads to a different path out of our
understanding but we could step there through some gained or earned experience , and this was made within me by attending this
Photo Walk to Qutub Minar. Qutub Minar is a monument and not a fancy kicky place to capture contemporary photos. The place full
of classical architecture with fine texture made of old techniques could not be captured in the same manner as a modern
photography , however , this place made me capture the old architecture at its best as that was the main heart of the venue .A place
like Qutub Minar made my terms and conditions of shooting different and made me to set my creativity goals a way differently .The
traditional photography methods helped me a lot and made out some of the best clicked photos and also recorded videos by me.
This Photo walk gave me some differently angled expertise to work as a photographer . So, being on the ground level and capturing
the surroundings was such a great exposure to me.
Outcome of both the visits

• The Museo Camera [Photo walk]

• So , this Photo walk explained many things about the field of Photography which includes mainly the Cameras. The
theoretical parts are not easily understandable but showcasing them to us with proper explanation made it at ease to
recognize things and grasp them to a great extent.
• Although , learning Photography is not that much a heavy task ; it , however , is a lot more fun out of all . Clicking photos of
what we liked seeing is a gratification to us. Different individuals , different eyes and different creativity levels of minds.
Photography allows us to dig deep into it . At Museo Camera the creativity level that I personally glanced at was very eye-
catchy and attracted me to practice more of photography there. The adjustment of previously used cameras at older times
and then, back to this period cameras , the technical change within the cameras made me amazed as there I observed
from the tiniest to the largest a room measured cameras available . The warm learning made me so excited about
capturing and clicking creatively , to show my viewpoints through clicked photos at my best .
• So, talking about what I learned from this first Photo walk was that of the history of Photography in a much detailed
manner , about the various types of camera of all times[ from the oldest camera to the latest high-tech one] with their
usage in a much clearer way . Plus, the explanation which was mentioned there just as captions for all the available
material there , the information available there was helpful for the curious minds to have more of the knowledge from
them also made our expertise sharper in the field like professionals as the information there was totally certified not
like any other irregular informative material so, that helped me so much while capturing and exploring.

Conclusion
• Both the Photo walks had a great impact on my photography skills in improving them as well as in adapting new skills.
• In addition to this, the way it was organized with our classmates was also a golden point here as we helped each other
throughout this project.
Assignment 4

Photo walk visit report

Photo walk report: Qutub minar and Mehrauli archaeological park

A photo walk was organized by the college itself for the BA(JMC) pursuing students at Qutub Minar and Mehrauli Archeological
Park. The 'Photo walk’ was organized on 13th of June 2022, this was for the goodness sake of the BaJMC students as This course
is totally related to the subject of Photography. So, it is very crucial for the students to have the glimpse of their particular
subject at a practical level. The type of subjects that this field has require more of practical knowledge for a better
understanding. The exploration of a place is very important from the eye of a photographer or for a learner photographer; Qutub
Minar, however , became the aesthetic venue for capturing beauty of the architecture. The students got a great viewpoint into
the depth of Photography. Every student got their chance to click their best photographs and got an understanding of how a
camera works in various forms and situations, holding a camera gives another sense of enjoyment within working in this field.
The vintage architecture gives a more naturalistic purpose behind the photo and provided us with some amazing clicks as an
outcome of ‘The Photo walk’, all the students have enjoyed the photo walk and learned much from it.

We were all asked to report the qutub minar metro station 6am and wait there for everyone to come. After that we gathered at
the monument entrance and purchased the tickets, The entry ticket for an Indian is ₹40 and for foreigners it's ₹400. After
purchasing the ticket, we all entered the monument area and spreaded in groups to take the photographs. Although there are
shaded areas in the complex, it is advisable to carry sun protection and water, especially during summer months. Qutub Minar is
counted among the famous historical places of India. Qutub minor is present in Delhi, India .this tower, made of stones and
intents, is a very tall tower. Qutub Minar was built in the 12th century by Qutbuddin Aibak but the complete work of this was
done by Qutbuddin Aibak is the successor of Iltutmish.
Photo walk visit report

• The height of Qutub Minar is more than 72m meters high. Qutub Minar is India's tallest tower. This tower is also called
the tallest dome tower. On this, mostly Redstone has been used. After 1505, earthquake the Qutub Minar had suffered a
lot, and then it was repaired by Sikander Lodhi to reach the top end of the Qutub Minar, 379 staircases were built.
• As, we all students were divided in groups by our professors and roles were assigned to us. Each of the student in group
was asked to click photographs from different angles and viewpoints. We were also asked to explore qutub minar as
much as we can and adapt different photography styles to make our pictures more better and bold. The Qutub Minar
complex also houses another interesting ” monument”. The Iron Pillar is a roughly 6000 Kilogram weighing, 24-foot high
pillar that has Sanskrit inscriptions on it. Having grown up in the region of the Qutub, a theory attached with the Iron
Pillar is that if a person stands with his/her back to the pillar and manages to wrap his/her hands around it, then they
can wish for anything and it will come true. As a child, I was never able to do that, and now, over the past couple of
decades, due to the negative effects of “oily” hands being placed on the pillar, it has been cornered off. As the place also
has religious connotations, one should be respectful of the tradition and culture at all times.
• In order to keep the complex clean and tidy, most of the gardens have been cornered off, but there are a few places
outside the complex where one can still have a small picnic during the winter months. The entire Qutub Minar complex
is a well-maintained property with lush gardens, nooks and corners to explore, the forgotten past to re-discover, and it is
the perfect place in the city to immerse oneself into the charm of glorious architecture.
Photo walk visit report

• Then after spending some time at qutub minar and clicking no of photographs we all were headed to the Mehrauli archaeological park to
explore that place and click more photographs to enhance our skills and knowledge in photography
• Mehrauli Archaeological Park is one of Delhi’s oldest and yet, most significant attractions. The cluster of historically classified monuments
spread over an area of 200 acres, lying adjacent to the Qutab Minar complex in Mehrauli. There are over 440 monuments in the area; the
dates of which range from the British era, to much earlier, in the times of the effervescent Lodi dynasty. The park is home to the worn-
out tombs of many significant historical figures including Balaban, Quli Khan, and Sufi poet Jamali.
• Mehrauli Archaeological Park proves to be an excellent source of recreation for people of all ages. The educational aspect of ancient
ravaged monuments entices young minds while the organic beauty of several gardens crowded with thick rose bushes bewitches the
adults. Bustling with school expeditions and family picnics on the busiest of days, the park brims with a sense of an inexplicable nostalgia.
Regardless of what part you decide to explore, you are met with a wave of history and heritage. A subtle reminder of ancient art and
medieval culture, the Mehrauli Archaeological Park is no less than a paradise for every history enthusiast. Spreading over an expanse of
200 acres, the park is held in high cultural regard as it hosts more than 100 unique ancient relics. Along with being a hub of famous
graves and tombs, the park abounds with several mosques, gardens, lakes and other historic structures.
