B. Review Of Related Literature

The Review of Related Studies is among the essential part in the chapter when conducting

a research. This mainly serves as a foundation for the researchers' proposed study. It also

serves as a guide in pursuing the research as well. It is essential for the researchers when

conducting a research as it provides a framework more valid Information that supports and

carry importance of the researchers study.

Moreover, various studies have been found related to the research and some of which is

the impacts of Social Media Among the Youth on Behavior Change: A Case Study of

University Students in Selected Universities in Nairobi, Kenya, Social Media Addiction

among Students of the University of Ghana . and the effects of Social Media on student's

behavior, Facebook as a case study. These studies are believed to be a helpful one as the

researchers go on with their research.

The first related study is the impacts of Social Media Among the Youth on Behavior

Change a Case Study of University Students in Selected Universities in Nairobi, Kenya" by

Rita Njoroge (2013). This study aimed to address the impact and implications of Social

Media on the Kenyan youth especially those in Universities on the way they are using these

medium and consequences of that use on their behavior. This study has 80 participants from

4 selected universities in Nairobi, Kenya. Furthermore, this study uses the qualitative

research method with descriptive survey questionnaires that will be answered by a total of 20

students from each selected university, Reasonable safeguards were built in this study based

on ethical considerations and requirements. Therefore, the information that the researcher

receives during the period of this study were treated in confidence and purely for academic

purposes. The study found out that the youth in Kenya use social media a lot and are mostly

using Facebook. Whatsapp and Twitter applications. It was also found that there was no

parental control Moreover, it made the youth lazy and most of them admitted to a waste of

time that would otherwise have gone to doing better things like reading. This study is

connected to our study because they both have the same purpose which is to know the

consequences of social media addiction to the student's behavior.

Another study is the Social Media Addiction among Students of the University of Ghana"

conducted by Akua Adası Out and published in the year of 2015 in the month of October.

This study is a qualitative analysis with its main purpose of indicating whether students of

the University of Ghana are addicted to social media and the level of their addiction as well.

This study therefore sought to examine addiction among users of social media in the said

university. The participants are the students of the University of Ghana. This quantitative

study presents the findings of the data collected from 200 students of the University of Ghana
to find out their usage of social media and to test their level of addiction to it. A 20 item

questionnaire was handed to respondents and a 100% response rate was achieved. This

method includes frequency tables and charts, the research questions and objectives of the

study. Based on the research findings. more than half of the respondents said they use

WhatsApp on a regular basis followed by Facebook which has over a quarter of the

respondents using it regularly. The results show that majority of the respondents use their

social media account for entertainment followed by 22.3% who use social media for creating

media content and sharing opinions while 20.3% said they use social media to meet new

people. A little above hall of the 200 respondents said they use it for social events and about

a fourth said they use it to maintain relationships. The relation of this study with our study is

that it focuses on the level of addiction the students are being addicted to Social Media In all

platforms.

Last study is The effects of Social Media on student's behavior, Facebook as a case study" by

Hüseyin Bicen (2016). Social networks are one of the most used communication methods of

today's world. Their use in different fields has been examined in various research studies. This

study aims to examine the effects of social media on student's behaviors which will mainly focus

on Facebook. Whether there is a positive relationship between confidence social media

participation and social media related behaviors will also be assed with regard to using Facebook.

In order to collect the primary data, a general scanning model was used to observe attitudes of

high school students. The participants chosen were 362 high school students from level 9 to 12.

The findings highlight that Facebook is used for communication entertainment and sharing news,

pictures and songs. Moreover, their Facebook profile picture is alone and students were aware

that swearing is considered a form of misconduct which is a good sign. The study also indicates

that students were aware of protecting their social identity as their Facebook shares are not
public. Furthermore, they respect privacy as they do not use their friend's Facebook account.

However, research found out that too much usage of social media can lead students to be

distracted in their works. This study is related to our research since this talk about social media

and its impact to student's behavior.

All of the mentioned studies above suggest that social media does cause behavioral changes

on students. Therefore, having these related studies will be of great help to our study since our

study mainly focuses on the effects of social media among the students in University of Cebu

Lapu-lapu and Mandate as well as the mentioned related studies above. These related studies then

will provide evidence to our study since they have similar purposes in conducting it.

the data that researchers need. Figure 1 of this study also shows the use of social media by

senior high school students. Here is also the method of study to obtain and analyze the data
that will be needed. It also contains the output of the study where the researchers will know

the effect of social media on senior high school students.

effects when not used properly it can damage your life or your education. It was seen that
