This document is an assignment for a fluid power course in the mechanical design stream of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the College of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. It is about automatic electronic transmissions and was prepared by Nahom Reta with an ID of ETS 0799/11 and is due on January 22, 2021. Automatic electronic transmissions use an electronic control module instead of mechanical components to control fluid pressure and operate valves based on inputs from various transmission sensors as well as engine and navigation data to select appropriate gear changes. They were first introduced to the market in the late 20th century.

The automatic electronic transmission or sometimes electronically controlled
automatic transmission is a transmission box that uses a control module instead of a mechanical governor or a throttle pressure measuring device to control fluid line pressure or operate the shuttle valves. This control module is usually mounted to the valve body. It uses inputs from a variety of transmission sensors such as crankshaft speed, output shaft speed, fluid temperature, selector position and bus in. engine performance data and navigation data can also be accessed from the vehicle’s on-board communication network. The control module processes this raw data and selects an appropriate action to perform, whether it’s a simple upshift due to increase in vehicle speed or a rapid downshift commanded using the gear selector with sports mode active.
