FLANGE BASICS

FLANGE TYPES :
WELD NECK
FLANGE BASICS

WELD NECK

Reduce high stress concentration

HIGH at the base of the flange

HUB Inherent structural value

Ease of assembly

For severe service applications

High pressure / High temperature

FLANGE BASICS

WELD NECK

The hole matches the ID

of the adjoining pipe

Little restriction to the flow

Turbulence and erosion are eliminated

FLANGE BASICS

WELD NECK

RFWN O : The flange’s outside diameter

Raised T : The flange’s face thickness

Face L : The flange’s length (length through hub)

FLANGE BASICS

FLANGE TYPES :
SLIP-ON
FLANGE BASICS

SLIP-ON

Flat Face (FFSO) For short tie-ins applications

Raised Face (RFSO) For space-limited applications

For replacement operations when connecting

pre-existing equipment

2 fillet welds are required to provide sufficient strength

and provide leakage

Reduced life span

FLANGE BASICS

O : Flange’s outside diameter

R : Raised face’s outside diameter
B2 : Bore’s inside diameter
X : Hub’s outside diameter
C : Flange face’s thickness
Y2 : Flange’s length through hub

PIPE RACK SPACING

Pipe rack
Line spacing dimensions are based on a
clearance of 1” between the OD of the largest
flange and the OD of the adjacent pipe

The minimum spacing between

any two lines is 4”

The thickness of the insulation must be added

(when applicable)

When lines are placed adjacent to a building or other

structure, a minimum clearance of 2’-0” is required from
the OD of a flange

A minimum clearance of 2’-0” is used on either side of a pipe

having orifice flanges
