Teaching reading to non-readers today is different from the past.
Teachers need to focus on extensive instruction especially to non-
readers.

“ Reading is not a skill that be developed through simple exposure


to text, but rather is a skill that must be explicitly taught and often
with a great deal and effort ( Goodman, LIbenson, & Wade-Woolley
2010).

The year 2020 has turned the lives of many people upside down
due to the outbreak of the COVID- 19 Pandemic. Pupils / learners
were the one being affected the most. The face to face classes has
been suspended in many schools in many countries.

As the DepEd South Cotabato launches the 15-Day SHARP


Program ( SUMMER HOME ASSISTANCE on READING by
PARENTS ) which aims to help the struggling readers read and
enable them to comprehend what they read and to hone the parent-
teacher volunteers in their teaching capacities in teaching reading.
The program involves all the identified potential readers, potential
parent-teacher, school heads and reading teachers.

XI. Terminal Objectives :

 To identify struggling readers.


 Improve reading ability among slow and non- readers.
 To improve learners oral reading fluency.
 Demonstrates involvement at home-by reading with their
children.
 Monitor children’s reading skills.

XII. Expected Output:

 Helped non-readers read.


 Enable frustration readers comprehend what they read.
 Enhanced the reading abilities of individual through various
literacy activities; and
 Developed instructional readers’ comprehension skills and
improve oral interpretation skills.

XIII. Activity Description :


Classroom setting and home tutoring with learning materials.
